Biggest Loser: Couples eliminated silver team talks

On a conference call earlier this week for NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples,” the eliminated silver team of Joelle Gwynn and Carla Triplett spoke to the media about their time on the ranch and mostly about their troubled friendship.

Look, if you watch this show, you know that Carla was giving 150% while Joelle was giving something like 70%. And even now, as media members questioned Joelle about her drive, she gave a mountain of excuses just very strange reasoning as to why she acted the way she did at the ranch, and why her fellow contestants turned on her. Also, apparently Joelle didn’t like the way trainer Bob Harper had yelled at her in Week 2, but she knew she couldn’t say anything and as a result is still bitter about it.

Here is an excerpt of Joelle’s warped reasoning Continue reading »

The Biggest Loser: Final Four, But Wait…..

Last night’s “Biggest Loser: Families” got us down to the final four for the season, but there are two episodes left including the live finale on December 16. And as she does as sneaky as ever, host Alison Sweeney made mention of the fact that there would be a “final three” and another twist. Uh-oh. They already brought one eliminated player back…what next? Really now, this show is starting to become a cartoon of itself, and that’s not good.

But down to business. Last night they showed the remaining five players go to New York City for a makeover with Christian Soriano. Now, I can tell you the quarterbacks and coaches from every NFL team, but I had no idea who this guy was, or what “Project Runway” was until Mrs. Mike pointed that out. Thanks, Mrs. Mike. Anyway, they all received makeovers which they would then debut on the “Tyra Banks Show.” The makeovers, honestly, were not all that great, but the contestants all look good because of the weight they lost. Vicky’s red hair looked, well, really bad. And the best part was that they each had a family member surprise them on stage. Those family members were also there to hang out and work out with the contestants for an extra day or two. Then it was back to the ranch.

There was a product placement of Jennie-O Turkey when Ed and Heba made trainer Bob Harper a “thank you” meal of turkey lettuce wraps. Then the challenge, which was to be suspended in a box 15 feet above a pool, holding yourself up as long as possible. Vicky was out first, but refused to drop into the water because she was scared. Then Heba, then Ed, then Renee, which left Michelle the winner. The prize was a spa package in some resort. Vicky, meanwhile, had to face her fear and jump, which she eventually did. Everyone was very nice and encouraging to the evil Vicky, and they actually wound up showing a soft side of her.

At the weigh in, Heba lost the most, followed by Michelle and Vicky. Renee and Ed were below the yellow line. So do the math….two blue shirts to one black shirt were voting, which meant for sure Renee was going home, right? Well, they made us all think that maybe Vicky would vote Ed off since he has a lot of weight to lose. But in the end, she stayed true to her “blue” teammates and voted Renee off.

Renee was shown coming home at the church where it all began, when Jillian showed up to recruit her and Michelle. And she has really lost a ton of weight, and looks great. So now we’re left with Ed, Heba, Vicky and Michelle. They spoke about the twist and that America may vote off the next contestant….let me tell you something Vicky, you’d better not be below the line if that’s the case next week, because I am quite sure no one in America will want to keep you there except maybe your own family. You are still evil, Vicky!

With that, we’re winding down and let’s hope the final two episodes are exciting with a limit on bickering and gameplay and twists. See you next week!

The Biggest Loser: It’s About the Money

So you thought that NBC’s hit reality show “The Biggest Loser” was about losing weight? Not really. Not when you dangle a $250,000 grand prize and $100,000 more for the player who lost the most weight after being eliminated. That’s when contestants unfortunately resort to gameplay instead of focusing on the actual premise of the show, which is who can lose the most freaking weight! You heard me, Vicky. You heard me, Brady. You heard me, Heba. But more on that in a minute.

They began the show with initial activities of trapeze and climbing. Some of the contestants were terrified but overcame their fears. Then they all had to go see Dr. Huizenga again, and the results were better this time…many of them had added years to their lives in just this short time by losing all that weight so far.

Then came the challenge and it was a balancing act over a pool. And it was a blue vs. black team competition, but if anyone fell in the water, they had to wait until the other team completely fell overboard to get back up. The blue team, led by Vicky, said they weren’t interested in the prize, which was a video of their family back home. Are you kidding me? Continue reading »

The Biggest Loser: Here We Go Again

We all knew that the name “Biggest Loser: Couples” was a facade, and that was proven last night. Look producers, we don’t care that you break up said couples, but if you start changing the teams every week like you did last season, you’re going to lose more than a few viewers. Mrs. Mike summed it up best last night, saying “I hate this show.” Harsh, but you can’t keep confusing your audience or they will get annoyed and stop watching. Me, I have to watch it to deliver this blog, but I want some continuity.

Anyway, so last night’s episode began with the contestants road-tripping to the Grand Canyon.
Host Alison Sweeney met up with them halfway there at a convenient store in the middle of the desert to offer up the first challenge. Ali pulled up in a beautiful RV, and announced that the winner of this challenge would stay in the RV and everyone else would be camping. The challenge involved convenience store food, and guessing how many calories were in each item Ali put on the counter. There were three rounds, and Ed and Heba (orange team) won all three, with their teammates conceding them the victory after two of those rounds.

When the group arrived at the campgrounds, which were pretty desolate Continue reading »
