Author: Bob Westal (Page 210 of 265)

Writer guy Bob Westal was literally born in Hollywood and has commented on the worlds of movies, popular culture, politics, and food ever since. His interest in cocktails is more recent, but he made up for lost time with hundreds of “Drink of the Week” blog posts for Bullz-Eye. In addition to writing and editing, Bob also talks a lot.

Happy Labor Day weekend movie moment #2

Since this weekend sees the release of “Extract,” the new movie from Mike Judge, it seems like a couple of clips from his bomb-turned-DVD smash, “Office Space” may be especially appropriate as we honor America’s workforce.

Oddly enough, this first scene contains some language that makes it possibly NSFW. Ironic, especially since is seems almost everyone talks this way at work these days. And, as in this case, they often have good reason. This scene brings back memories.

Behold the genius of Gary Cole and Stephen Root.

See you tomorrow. (Yeah, I’ll be working tomorrow. The boss came up to me and said, “Bob, tomorrow is Labor Day and everything, but I’m gonna need you to blog in your pajamas again, if that’s okay. Yeah…”)

Happy Labor Day weekend movie moment #1

It’s Labor Day weekend. I’ve got some plans of my own this Sunday, for a change, so I’m putting off this week’s box office report for tomorrow. (As I write this, however, it’s looking like what I said on Friday morning is once again going to be wrong.) In the meantime, please enjoy this Labor Day themed clip from Walt Disney’s historic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

A couple of thoughts. I’d forgotten the dwarfs are all diamond miners, and such lucky ones. You’d think their standard of living would be better, under the circumstances. Maybe Doc or Grumpy are skimming off the top. The rest could use a union. Or, considering their extremely lax security, perhaps the wicked queen is just stealing from them every night. They should considering hiring Brinks. I hope they’re reading.

Exploitative movie moment #2

More of the work of exploitation master, Jack Hill in honor of Cody Jarrett’s grindhouse nouveau masterwork. This amazing vintage trailer is for the film better known today, thanks to Quentin Tarantino, as “Switchblade Sisters.” I’m deeply ashamed to say I’ve never seen this. I mean to correct that, soon. You’ll see why.

And this is what I call ACTING. Great stuff.

Exploitative movie moment #1

In honor of tonight’s premiere of a new women-in-prison masterpiece (ahem), I’m presenting some moments from exploitation classics of the past, today highlighting the work of  a true exploitation master, Jack Hill. (Hill also happens to guest star in the exploitation masterwork mentioned above.) Below, the amazing credit sequence from the Pam Grier magnum opus, “Foxy Brown.” Check it out.

And here’s a brief scene with a real Jack Hill touch to it.

An entirely shameless post

In which I shamelessly plug the new exploitarama from my long time friend and cohort, Cody Jarrett. “Sugar Boxx” a women-in-prison low-budget extravaganza of sex, mayhem and other tried and true filmic values premieres tomorrow night, September 5th, at midnight at the Sunset 5 Theatres on the eastern edge of West Hollywood. Those lucky enough to be in attendance will be treated to sexy nudity, a great score (by The Millionaire of Combustible Edison and Steven Adler, formerly of Guns ‘n Roses), gratuitous violence, nudielicious sex, a line of hilarious-yet-pithy dialogue 40% written by me as well as brief flashes…of me (in a nonspeaking role!), nudity, Russ Meyer superstars Tura Satana and Kitten Natividad and the smoking-hot stars of tomorrow (and reality TV), foul language, a little violence, and some more or less nude lesbian sex.

You can see just a hint of that below:

The show is likely to be crowded with famed cast members (including me!) and may well sell out, so buying your tickets early is a good thing. You may still be able to do so here. And, if you can’t make it — acceptable excuses include living thousands of miles from greater Los Angeles — the absolute least you can do is to check out the Sugar Boxx Facebook page as well as the fabulous official website which will no doubt help keep you informed as to various means of viewing this soon-to-be-enormous masterwork.
