American Idol: best reaction ever?

If you saw “American Idol” last night, you know what I mean by that subject line. But let me just say, this was one of the best episodes on the show, ever, for a few reasons. It was almost like a lite version of the season finale. Anyway, the show began with host Ryan Seacrest talking about how J-Lo’s husband, singer Marc Anthony, helped the contestants this past week by supplying in-ear monitors…and hey, they seemed to really work. Then came the group number, and with this being Motown week, they did Diana Ross’ classica “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and it wasn’t bad….but then came the best part….Stevie Wonder doing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” with the Idols singing backup….and then Stevie wishing Steven Tyler a happy birthday and singing to him, while a cake was brought out. Way, way cool.

American Idol: how do you choose?

I told Mrs. Mike last night that the episode of “American Idol” that ended as she arrived home was the best episode of the show I’ve ever seen. And I mean the talent was all good…so good that trying to figure out who might go home was a major chore. Like J-Lo said, the voters are going to have to just pick their favorite and see where the chips fall. And I guess I can throw a few names out there but it’s going to be difficult. Here is how it all went down….

American Idol: adios and down to 11

Last night’s episode of “American Idol” proved that you have to be just amazing to compete this season. More on that in a minute, but the show began with Ryan Seacrest going off about the number of votes, etc. blah blah blah. Then of course, the awful group number–which, this week was a super weird combination of Steppenwolf and Lady GaGa. Really? Then the Ford video. Then, on to some results….dim the lights, please…..

Jacob, Lauren and Casey all were brought out, and before I even heard Seacrest announce anything, I knew all three of them were safe, and they were. Then Haley and Paul were brought out and I thought both of them might be in the Bottom 3, but it was just Haley. I’m still angered by this. Haley did a phenomenal job on Wednesday night in my opinion, but the judges, especially Randy, just panned her.

American Idol: this field rocks

If you didn’t come away from last night’s episode of “American Idol” feeling like this field has no clear-cut winner, you weren’t paying attention. I truly can’t remember a more talented group of finalists, about half of who have a shot to win it all. Of course, I didn’t agree with all of the judges’ comments last night, but I do appreciate the field of talent that they have given us. Here is our recap of the episode of the contestants singing songs from the year they were born in:

American Idol: take that, judges

Last week I wrote that I thought the judges on “American Idol” were making a big mistake by making Ashton Jones a wild card, and not sending Robbie Rosen through. Was my point made loud and clear? Yes. More on that in a minute.

Last night’s results show was thankfully only an hour, unlike last week’s two-hour marathon. They showed footage of the contestants living in their Hollywood mansion, and then showed their awful group number, a Michael Jackson medley. Blech.
