The Biggest Loser: all about the “C”

Last night on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” host Alison Sweeney told both the red and black teams that they would have to each choose a captain for the week. The red team chose Justin and the black team chose Marci. The captains then met with Alison and she informed them that they would choose one person who would be allowed in the kitchen for the week (and cook for everyone else) and they had to choose two people to work out with the trainers, while everyone else had to find alternate ways to exercise.

The black team chose Olivia to cook and the red team chose Ken; and for the gym, the black team had Hannah and Sarah and the red team Kaylee and Ken. So Ken was doing both? Okay.

American Idol: who saw this coming?

So who saw this coming on “American Idol?” It’s not so much the results that were shocking, but how fast they eliminated semi-finalists to reach the Top 12, which was actually at Top 13. It was truly one of the most exciting episodes I can remember, and as always, there were some good choices and bad choices by both America and the judges.

It went down like this….there were ten seats to the left of Ryan Seacrest, and they would be filled from the 24 seats to Seacrest’s right based on America’s 40 million votes. The Top 5 guys and Top 5 ladies would fill those seats. But after that, the judges would choose three guys and three gals to sing for their lives in order to fill the remaining two chairs as wild cards. Really? They were going to do all of that in two hours? Well, yes they were, and yes they did.

Top Chef All-Stars: now that’s what I’m talking about

I love “Top Chef.” And I love “Top Chef” more now that they did something so right last night. But more on that in a bit. The show began as the chef-testants were being filmed in their dorm, which, as it turns out, is in Brooklyn with a great view of Manhattan. Then host Padma Lakshmi showed up and asked them to meet her on the building’s roof, which really showed off the amazing view. You could also see Ellis Island, which is where immigrants had to pass through on their way to the “new world” a century or so ago.

American Idol: ladies not on par

Look, it’s not like these ladies in the Top 24 of “American Idol” suck. But I think there was a distinct difference in the quality of performances from the guys Tuesday night to the girls Wednesday. I think the judges turned in a lousy performance last night as well, propping up several of the singers who just plain sucked, and doling out unnecessary criticism of others who were pretty good. So with that, I’m going to give you the recap based on my own thoughts, and add what the judges said……

American Idol: first 12 guys are solid

Last night’s episode of “American Idol” proved one thing–the talent pool, at least so far among the guys, is through the roof. But before they began singing, host Ryan Seacrest announced that on Thursday’s results show, the Top 5 guys and Top 5 girls will be announced, and that the judges would advance the rest as wild cards, meaning that the judges are eliminating contestants this week, not America. America is only voting for their favorites. Very interesting. But regardless, these judges know talent, and are primarily responsible for the wealth of talent this season. With that, let’s break down last night’s performances…..
