Have they started selling tickets yet?

Wilmer Valderrama is going to play Ponch in a big-screen version of “CHiPs.”

This is great news for two reasons: 1) the public is clamoring for another big-screen remake of a bad ’70s TV show and 2) Wilmer Valderrama is getting work.

The truth is, there just aren’t any original ideas left. Hollywood is giving away script deals to new writers left and right. In fact, the president of Warner Bros. called me the other day to see if I had any ideas for a movie. The best I could come up with was a remake of “Charles In Charge.”

I shouldn’t jest – it’s probably in the works.

David Cross Gits-R-Done

That adorable David Cross, everyone’s favorite family comic has issued a hilarious open letter to Larry The Cable Guy. Hey, here’s an idea. Let’s give Cross his own show! Oh wait…he already had one. Screw you, HBO. Anyhow, it’s nice to see Cross putting another jackass in his place. It’s hard to fathom why so many folks enjoy that “adult” flavored “Hee-Haw” humor, but then again, I could never figure out why Jeff Foxworthy clicked with so many. Unless it truly has something to do with Wal-Mart taking over the world.

“Saw” producer dies in ironic-free fashion

While we do grieve for the family of “Saw” producer Gregg Hoffman, who died Sunday at age 42, the news of his death produced the following conversation between me and my wife Buffybot:

MW: Did you see that the producer of the “Saw” movies is died? He was only 42.

BB: Did he die inside some gruesome, elaborate maze?

MW: He went to the hospital complaining of neck pain.

BB: From the bear trap on his head?

Man, do I love my wife. My condolences to Hoffman’s family, but that conversation was just sitting out there, waiting to be had.

Blue hairspray and other horrible props

I’ve been waiting all weekend for the rumored “X-Men 3” trailer to hit apple.com, and now that I’ve seen it, well, I wish I hadn’t. All of the rumors about director Brett Ratner ruining the “X-Men” franchise is true. And while the movie itself actually looks to be quite entertaining, the steps Ratner took to get there are unforgettable. The most notable new mutants introduced in the third film are Angel (Ben Foster), Beast (Kelsey Grammar) and Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones). And while the former is not only an amazing casting choice but also looks great in character, the latter two just look absolutely ridiculous.

Grammar in-costume as Beast may just be the worst-looking comic character brought to big screen. He looks more like Wolverine on Halloween than the Beast fans of the comics all know and love. And Juggernaut could have been worst if Jones hadn’t managed to pump himself up so big. The guy had to have gained at least 100 pounds of pure muscle for the role (no joke), but the new costume (very different from the all-metal suit he usually wears in the comics) is a joke. It’ll take some serious pause action to get a good look at it, but I can assure you that you won’t like what you see. It’s also curious to note that the title of the film is being rumored as “X3: The Last Stand.” If the movie is as ridiculous as it looks, you can bet it will be the last “X-Men” film in a long time.

Still, the trailer’s worth checking out here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/x3/large.html
