In the October issue of Esquire, Brad Pitt announces that he and Angelina Jolie “will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able,” swiftly answering any lingering questions about his position on gay marriage and simultaneously making Jennifer Aniston feel like shit because he couldn’t be bothered to make a political statement before marrying (and subsequently divorcing) her.
EW Popwatch has assembled their list of the 50 best high school movies of all time, and they pretty much nailed it. Everybody from James Dean to the Ramones is here, with slashers and wizards mixed in as well. I am especially pleased to see that “Brick” (currently sitting at #1 on my Movies of 2006) placed as high as it did, and Buffybot will be pleased to see “Can’t Buy Me Love” earned a spot as well. No one, however, will be able to successfully convince me that “Sixteen Candles” deserved to be ranked 49th overall. Wrongheaded revisionist history, that’s all it is.
One movie that didn’t make the cut that I always had a soft spot for: The Last American Virgin.

Present company excluded, of course…but that’s the only explanation I can come up with for why, in a poll of 66 TV critics throughout the US, the winner for this season’s Best New Comedy and second-best show of the entire new season was…”Ugly Betty.”
God bless America Ferrera, the actress who plays Betty, but I’ve seen the pilot episode, and…well, not to spoil our upcoming Fall TV Preview piece, but this is what I said of the show:
“That sucking sound you hear is the testosterone departing your system at a rapid clip. This is ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ as interpreted by ABC Family…and Vanessa Williams ain’t no Meryl Streep, lemme tell ya. No, actually, this is an adaptation of the popular Spanish telenovela ‘Yo Soy Betty, La Fea’ (translated as ‘I Am Betty, The Ugly One’). I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised that ABC was too scared to make Betty legitimately ugly; instead, America Ferrera has enough legitimate cuteness peeking through that you’re constantly waiting for the simple makeover that could make her into a knockout. Expect fans of the original show to be horrified at this poor translation. In fact, it’s hard to imagine that anyone other than girls on the cusp of pubescence or desperately single women in their 20s and 30s will be able to stand this for even 30 minutes. Oh, and did I mention that it’s an hour long?”
So what I’m saying is, forget “Ugly Betty.” If you need a comedy fix this fall, go with “The Knights of Prosperity,” formerly known as “Let’s Rob Mick Jagger.”
Nah, me neither…but that’s not going to stop him from trying.
Born-again Christian Stephen Baldwin — or “Stevie B,” as he likes to call himself — has a new book coming out on September 19. Titled “The Unusual Suspect: My Calling to the New Hardcore Movement of Faith,” the book examines Baldwin’s brand of “extreme evangelism” that uses “hardcore music, extreme sports and ‘gnarly’ people as means that separate his ministry from other Christian programs.”
In a surprisingly compelling interview with The Book Standard, Baldwin discusses his new book; his “Livin’ It”ministry tour/merchandising campaign; his upcoming, “kick-butt rock-and-roll ministry concept” reality show for VH-1; and having “threesomes with God.”
