Another amazing recreation

It seems that barely two weeks ever go by without some ambitious neophyte filmmaker doing something kind of amazing when it comes to recreating or outdoing something we see in the movies. Via Keith Phipps and the Onion A.V. Club, below is a super-sweding of the opening musical number from Disney’s 1995’s “A Goofy Movie,” which not only have I never seen, I’ve forgotten even existed. It kind of takes the term “live action cartoon” to a new level.

Ted Sowards of Arizona, you’ve accomplished something. And for those who ask “why,” I say, “why does a man recreate a mountain?”

And, speaking of live-action recreations of scenes from nineties cartoon musicals, well, let’ s just say you never know what you’re going to come up with on YouTube and, courtesy of some talented folks from the Berklee College of Music, we have a very different recreation from a very different cartoon musical comedy.

Movie loving movie moments, Pt. 3 — the Hitch edition

Continuing yesterday’s series of moments designed to reawaken (my) cinematic affection, pre-Oscars. First, the Alfred Hitchcock cameos.

And now one of Hitchcock absolute greatest films –somewhat underrated these days and having absolutely nothing to do with Biggie Smalls — is discussed by my favorite living underrated director, Stephen Frears (“The Hit,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Dirty Pretty Things,” “High Fidelity,” “The Queen,” and the list goes on and on), who explains why Hitchcock is not one bit overrated.

And, yes, I know, whoever posted this got his “Steven” and “Stephen” wrong here. It made it slightly tricky to re-find this video on YouTube, put perseverance has its rewards.

NPH to dance with “Smurfs”

On the list of movies I really think are not great ideas, like, say “Battleship,” a “Smurfs” film is probably up there. On the other hand, it looks like the upcoming film will be testing the theory that anything with Neil Patrick Harris is worth a look, even a truly smurfed up movie. And, considering that we’re on the precipice of Oscar Weekend 2010 and the power of a certain blue-creature filled science fiction film, well, there’s only one video to play.

The tragic implications of orange mocha frappucinos

I missed the big “Zoolander 2” story last week. And, so, in penance I offer everyone’s favorite scene from the goofy 2001 comedy.

I know lots of people who didn’t think the first film was any good, and it certainly had some dull patches, but few scenes have made me laugh as hard as this one the first time I saw it. The conventional wisdom might be that 9/11 harmed the film’s box office, but all I know is that by the time I saw this, I was definitely ready to laugh.

And here’ s a bit with Ben Stiller himself from Steve “Frosty” Weintraub of Collider. Remember what the spawn of Stiller & Meara says: If it’s on the Internet, it’s real.
