Let’s get this monster party started

Yes, there is end of the week film news tonight/this morning I could talk about — a possible break in the long-running saga of MGM; a surprise presidential departure at Sony; and the disappointing news that the premier of “The Circus” was probably not visited by an aged, possibly cross-dressing time-traveler. Nah. How could I possibly follow an interview with the director “Monster A-Go-Go” with anything remotely sensical? Time for a fairly random movie monster mash to get the Halloween weekend going.

And now Vincent Price, with a little help from John Carradine, gives a disturbing speech (what’s a “hume”?) and brings a disco spin to the actual “Monster Mash” from the movie…actually, I have no idea what movie this is from. Is this from a movie? Did I dream this?

And, remember, “only the weird zombies remain.”

Archana Ram at EW informs us that the latest bestseller to be the subject of a big-time Hollywood movie adaptation is the instructional tome, What to Expect When You’re Expecting that will become a sort of “Pregnancy, Actually” multi-story/multi-star film.

No wonder Hollywood’s interested. It’s a sequel.

I like movie about movies, and this one,”Brothers Justice,” features co-writer director Dax Shepherd, Jon Favreau, Tom Arnold, and, er, Ashton Kutcher, playing themselves (which in the latter two cases is preferable to them playing someone once) and has my attention. Following the lead of Dustin Rowles, I’m not going to say much more than that. See what you think. (A bit NSFW because of some of F-words and a homophobic slur on a martial art.)

The perils of the information age

It used to be that screenwriters had to worry about questions like “why don’t they just go to the police?” or “why doesn’t he just tell her the truth?” Now, of course, “why they don’t just try Googling him?” is right up there. This bit of tomfoolery from College Humor — via /film — imagines the impact of easy web access on hits of the past.

By the way, the College Humor guys got themselves into the movie news today via some apparent uncomfortable similarities between their “Inception” parody and one that recently appeared on “South Park.” It seems Matt Stone and Trey Parker needed to closely mimic the film’s dialogue and weren’t actually able to see the movie again or get a hold of a screener, so they relied on online parodies to remind themselves of the actual dialogue from the film, accidentally copying the parody dialogue instead. The pair have apologized to College Humor, which is fair enough. Shortcuts have hazards, however.
