Reese finally comes to her senses

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe are splitting up after seven years of marriage, TMZ reports:

The couple’s rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says “We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time.”

Sources indicated that the couple’s impending divorce was not caused by a single event, but rather a “cumulative” series of events. Experts suggest that, aside from the couple’s obvious imbalance in the areas of talent, intelligence, and overall attractiveness, two key factors in the breakup were a) Reese’s realization that she is Reese Witherspoon and he is Ryan Phillippe; and b) Ryan’s refusal to “shave that shit off his face.”

“View’s” Hasselbeck hassles “SVU”

“The View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is up in arms over an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” that features a character named “Elizabeth Hassenback” being raped and murdered. The character is close in age to Hasselbeck, and, like her, lives in New York. Claiming to feel “disrespected,” and calling the episode and its implications “socially irresponsible,” Hasselbeck called the show’s producers to demand an explanation. Instead, what she got was an insincere apology followed by a dial tone.

Stunned and appalled by her callous treatment at the hands of a Hollywood producer (a famously cuddly bunch), Hasselbeck is now attempting to blacklist all “SVU” cast members, prohibiting them from appearing on her show…which might be more of a threat if “The View” were actually considered a cultural tastemaker rather than a mildly entertaining means of passing the time between cups three and four of coffee.

Just the same, looking to make amends, producers for the show called back to chalk the character similarities up to coincidence…and encouraged Hasselbeck to tune in next week, when a lesbian character named Posey O’Connell will be force-fed chocolate bon-bons until her stomach explodes.

Beauty and the Beast: Monsters and their Molls

Every year, when October rolls around, we here at Bullz-Eye start scrambling to come up with a Halloween-themed feature. Last year, we put together a list of our top-15 horror movies, and, sure, we could’ve done that again, but what would’ve been the point? Were there really any releases within the last year that would’ve changed our list? Granted, “The Descent” was creepy…but not top-15-of-all-time creepy. So we started thinking of other aspects of Halloween, and we kept coming back to the idea of doing something on monsters. But as we looked at our list of monsters, we – and by “we,” I mean the wife of one of our editors (hi, Jenn!) – noticed an interesting trend: Behind every good monster is a woman. Sometimes she loves him, sometimes she doesn’t…but if she doesn’t, well, hey, he’s a monster; that’s not going to stop him from loving her. So with that premise in mind, we’re presenting a list of our favorite monstrous men (and beasts) and their lovely ladies.

Here’s a sample…

Jason Voorhees and his Mother: The first love of a man’s life is invariably his mother, and unless you develop an Oedipus complex, that’s pretty normal. Too bad “normal” is about the last adjective you’d use to describe either Jason Voorhees or his mother, Pamela. If you’re a dedicated viewer of the “Friday the 13th” film series, you already know that Mrs. Voorhees had her problems; she was already suffering from schizophrenia before she gave birth to a hydrocephalic child…and when she thought he’d drowned off the shores of Camp Crystal Lake, well, that really sent her over the edge. Nine murders later — each done in Jason’s name, of course — Pamela got her just desserts in the form of decapitation; to be fair, though, it came courtesy of the machete she’d been wielding against an innocent girl only moments before. Jason – who, funnily enough, wasn’t actually dead after all (whoopsie!) – paid tribute to his late mother by taking both her head and her body to his shack in the woods, where he built a very lovely shrine/corpse storage area in her memory. It’s just what Pamela would have wanted. – WH

Lindsay Lohan wants an Oscar, and a husband, and…a pony!

In an interview with In Style magazine, the actress mentioned her desire to win an Oscar by the age of 30. She’d also like to be settled down with a house and a husband by then. Oh, and she thinks having a hit record would be nice, too.

Informed of Lohan’s Academy Award aspirations, her Oscar-nominated “Georgia Rule” and “Bobby” costars Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy presumably giggled, “It’s good to want things.”

Indeed. Setting goals is nice — whether you actually achieve them or not. For instance, I really, really wanted to own a Green Machine when I was eight years old…but Santa never brought me one. Somehow, though, I’ve still managed to grow into a mostly functional adult…and one who wasn’t spoiled by being given everything she ever wanted.

It builds character, wanting things. And something tells me LiLo has a whole lot of character-building in her future.
