2018 isn’t over yet but that won’t stop us from listing the best movies of the year so far. 2018 has been a good year for the cinema with several movies raking in over $1 billion in sales worldwide. Our list won’t only focus on ticket sales but on the overall effect the movies had on viewers. Writing, directing, cinematography, acting, and video production have all been considered. So without further ado here are the 5 best Hollywood movies of 2018.
1. Blank Panther
Blank Panther has been, without a doubt, the most popular movie of 2018. This pop culture phenomenon did an unbelievable job of bringing comic-book superhero Blank Panther to life. The movie is set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda and follows its king T’challa as he navigates the challenges that come with his new found power. You can tell a lot of work was put into this movie and the cinematography, set designs, and costumes are sure to blow you away.
DC have been playing catch-up with Marvel on the cinematic playing field since 2008, when Marvel released Iron Man and forever defined the expectations of movies in the superhero genre. This is not necessarily a criticism of DC, but rather a testament to the incredible foresight and planning displayed by Marvel creatives. The criticism of DC comes from their sloppy efforts to make up an inordinate amount of lost ground with quick fixes. Having tried their hand (and failed) with re-evaluations of DC’s most famous characters in the form of Batman and Superman, DC’s recent revelation of an upcoming movie based on the Joker demonstrates a change in focus that could differentiate them from their main competitor.

Movies have become that proverbial campfire we gather around to hear stories. With film, you can experience a myriad of emotions, such as love, amazement, anger and fear. Movies help us move through time while also freezing time by taking hold of the senses that tell us what is and isn’t real.
For film fans, the new year doesn’t really begin until culminates the film awards season starts. Many film buffs wait in suspense to see if the industry agrees with their picks for the top films, acting performances, and production work of the past year.
