So long, Tommy

Ah, sweet justice! After 14 tears of courtship, Paramount Studios has given Tom Cruise the boot. Cruise’s camp claims the studio “came up short” during negotiations, but really, isn’t it about time Tom was offered the kind of money equal to the quality of the kind of movies he chooses to make lately? Sure it is! But on top of that, Sumner Redstone, the chairman of Viacom (and owner of Paramount) had this to say regarding the Cruiser:

“As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew the deal. His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount.”

Hey, someone finally got it right! Thank you, Sumner. Now what are the chances all future Cruise movies can be straight to video?

Rosie loses again

Awww. Rosie O’Donnell didn’t win an Emmy for her documentary “All Aboard!” But fear not! Rosie wrote a poem about it on her blog entitled “losing” that you can enjoy while you share in her disappointment. There are even photos to enjoy! A sample:

i am 44

The real gold, however may just lie in the reader’s comments and Rosie’s responses. From another entry, entitled “ask ro”:

Kimberly writes:

Do you drink alot you seem to.
I have always liked you but your poetry scares me for you?
What the heck is going on with you your not the same …?

i dont drink a lot
my poetry scares some
u r not alone

It’s great to know that Ro has taken up the new generation’s cause by typing everything as if it were a new poem and in shortcut Internet speak. I feel she has a little 14 year old Ro-Ro all bottled up inside (*single tear*).

When MST goes bad

“Mystery Science Theater 3000” was/is definitely one of my fave shows of all time. No thanks to the bastards who kept getting the thing cancelled, but at least Mike Nelson was groovy enough to give me an interview a few years back and also sign my copy of his “Mind Over Matters” book. But anyway, as we all know, the greatest stuff in the world can always be ruined on the Internet. Case in point, the truly awful The MST3K Fanfiction Page! Now, why the hell anyone would be interested in reading this stuff, let alone write it is beyond me, but there you go. Especially terrible is the handful of tales that are actual attempts at MSTies. Thrill to complete unknowns show how unfunny they are! Try to read through an entire “script” and not fall asleep! Glory be to fan fiction writers!
