Bourne vs. Bond

Matt Damon is a pretty opinionated guy, and he didn’t hold back in a recent interview when asked about the James Bond films.

”They could never make a James Bond movie like any of the Bourne films,” Damon says scornfully. “Because Bond is an imperialist, misogynist sociopath who goes around bedding women and swilling martinis and killing people. He’s repulsive.

“Steve [Soderbergh, who produced yet another of Damon’s spy movies, Syriana] told me that years ago he was offered a Bond movie. He told them he’d do it if they gave him creative control. Absolutely not, they said. They have a formula, they stick to it, and it makes them a lot of money. They know what they’re doing, and they’re going to keep doing it.”

Maybe he should lighten up a little.

“Love Guru” tops Razzie nominations

Mike Myers has had some huge hits in his successful career, but “Love Guru” was a mess. Not surprisingly, the film is getting the recognition it deserves.

Voters for 2008’s worst movies love Mike Myers. They really love him.

Myers’ comedy flop “The Love Guru” led the field Wednesday for the Razzies with seven nominations, among them worst picture and worst-acting slots for Myers, Jessica Alba, Verne Troyer and Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley.

The number of nominations for “Love Guru” was appropriate given what a personal project it was for Myers, who not only starred but also co-wrote and produced the movie, said John Wilson, founder of the Razzies, an Oscar spoof that dishes out “dis-honors” for the lousiest stuff Hollywood dredged up the previous year.

Don’t quit your day job

Joaquin Phoenix has decided to quit acting in order to start a career in music. Big mistake.

“This is me saying this is who I am. This is my story,” the actor-turned-aspiring rapper told PEOPLE before taking the stage at Las Vegas club LAVO.

The video speaks for itself. It’s an amateur video so the sound quality sucks. One can’t expect Phoenix to sound good. But he looks like a drunk college kid who went onstage on a dare. It’s almost as bad as Dee Dee Ramone’s ill-advised stab at rap stardom.

The making of “The Shining”

Here’s a cool “behind the scenes” video about Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.” Kubrick allowed his then-17-year-old daughter, Vivian, to make a documentary about the production of the film. There’s some great footage of Jack Nicholson and the rest of the cast. In one scene Shelley Duvall discusses being a little jealous about the extra attention that Nicholson received due to his celebrity status.

Phoebe Cates still looks great!

The New York Daily News has compiled a fun feature, as they tracked down the cast members of this early-80’s classic. Along with Phoebe (here’s another great photo), Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh, you might be surpised who else made appearances is this memorable comedy.
