Paging Robert Smigel

gayduo

Clearly inspired by Smigel’s “Ambiguously Gay Duo” cartoons on Saturday Night Live, Cracked magazine has published a list of “10 Movie and TV Duos Who Were Probably Gay.” While some of the usual suspects made the list (Maverick and Iceman come to mind), there are some surprises there as well.

Okay, Brandon Walsh and Dylan McKay I totally buy (no wonder Dylan always wore that squinty-eyed look of inner torment), and even Schroeder and Linus are a conceivably cute couple…but “Pulp Fiction”’s Vincent and Jules?! No way. That’s going too far. No self-respecting gay man would accessorize with a wallet that says “Bad Motherf*$ker” on it, despite the potential lowbrow camp appeal.

Oh, and Miyagi and Daniel-San? That’s just sacrilegious…no matter how fey that crane kick may have looked. Let’s let poor Pat Morita rest in peace, shall we?

It’s Monday morning. Why work?

Remember that image that made the rounds a while back that had cleverly embedded pictures representing 75 different band names in it?

Well, now there’s a movie version, and they’ve upped the ante: the image contains representations of 100 different movie titles.

I capped out at 76 last night, and that includes a couple of feeble guesses. If anyone has ideas about the dog or the Nike shoe, I welcome your input. Happy time-wasting!

Let us guess: It involves a hot young gardener?

Eva Longoria plans to write an erotic novel, according to reports quoted in The Book Standard:

“They offered a huge deal and I like the idea of seeing my book on a shelf,” she said on the website. “The plot’s top secret so far but let’s just say I have a wild imagination.”

Far be it from us to question the erotic power of Ms. Longoria’s “wild” imagination — or the marketability of the end product, for that matter — but we still can’t help wondering whether this latest addition to our nation’s proud literary heritage will include not only a shirtless lawn boy half the heroine’s age, but ALSO a beguilingly feisty parking lot attendant.

Only time will tell.

Ashlee Sarah Michelle Simpson Gellar

ashlee smg

Okay, pop quiz: Two of these pictures are of Ashlee Simpson before and after her “alleged” plastic surgery. One of these pictures is of Sarah Michelle Gellar, aka our beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Can you guess which is which?

All right, you probably guessed that the two pictures on the left are Ashlee, and the one on the right is Sarah. But you hesitated for just a moment, didn’t you?

Oh well: anything that distances Ashlee from her previous lip-synching-on-SNL look…and makes her look even less like her spotlight-whore sister Jessica…can’t be such a terrible thing, now, can it?

At least as long as that plastic continues to hold up over the years…

They know when you are sleeping…

…they know when you’re awake. And apparently, enough of you are awake between 11pm and 1am to warrant scheduling a brand-spanking-new programming block on TBS.

Looking to tap into the success of other original late-night programming such as Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” TBS is rapidly putting multiple projects into development, including a show called “Late Night Buffet” from the Jim Henson Company “that would stage a talk show entirely with puppets — except for the human celebrity guests.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

“It’s a different way to approach the late-night talk show,” TBS and TNT senior vp original programming Michael Wright said. “It takes the Henson brand’s intelligence and warmth and mixes it with a little wickedness and fun.” …

Henson Co. co-chair and co-CEO Brian Henson will do the puppetry for “Buffet” with Bill Barretta. The show will not feature Muppets like Kermit the Frog but rather newer puppets. The host and sidekick will be puppet characters Augustus Pfiffle and Delbert Kastle. Even the band will be puppets, consisting of character Gina Cappellini and her pet monkeys.

“It’s a talk show where we improvise as we go,” Henson said. “This is the kind of character-driven work we enjoy doing.”

Just what we all needed: One more reason not to go to bed just yet.
