We now have confirmation.
There will be four – count ’em – FOUR brand-new full-length Futurama movies.
In tribute, I shall now quote one of my all-time favorite lines from the show:
Nibblonian: You are the last hope of the universe.
Fry: So I really am important? How I feel when I’m drunk is correct…?
Nibblonian: Yes…except that the Dave Matthews Band doesn’t rock.
Sadly, however, I’ll have to wait ’til February 21st, as that’s when Sony is releasing “Action: The Complete Series” on DVD. Extras will include commentary on some episodes, a making-of documentary, and, best of all, no bleeps. Unexpigated cursing? Sign me up! Plus, any excuse to see Buddy Hackett onscreen again. It’s just a damned shame he didn’t live long enough to be filmed for “The Aristrocrats.”
The new season of “The Shield” starts this week and I’m faced with a tough decision. Do I watch the show as it goes on FX, which basically looks like garbage on my 92″ HD front projection system (as my cable company does not yet carry FX in HD) or do I wait for the DVDs, which will allow me to watch the season in semi-glorious 480p?
I find this dilemma quite humorous considering what quandaries my father and grandfather were likely facing at my age. My father, a teacher at a technical college, was likely stressed about the energy crisis in the ’70s. My grandfather, who moved all over the country chasing jobs as a welder, probably wasn’t sure where he’d be living in the next few months.
I guess we are a product of our times. So, do I wait for those DVDs?
According to the fine folks at TVShowsOnDVD.com, it looks like Hanna Barbara is continuing its trend of releasing the shows from my youth just in time for me to infect my daughter with them. “Dynomutt” is on the way, and, if this news is true, it won’t be long before we see a “Hong Kong Phooey” set.
Can the “Captain Caveman” and “Funky Phantom” collections be far away…?
“The Simpsons‘ 138th Episode Spectacular” came during the show’s 7th season. It’s a glorified clip show, basically, but there was some hilarious new material courtesy of the late Phil Hartman as Troy McClure.
(“Right about now, you’re probably saying, ‘Troy, I’ve seen every Simpsons episode. You can’t show me anything new.’ [menacingly] Well, you got some attitude, Mister.”)
When listening to the audio commentary, however, one finds out that Hartman so loved the character of Troy McClure that he was fully committed to and incredibly excited by the idea of doing a live-action Troy McClure movie.
Damn, damn, damn.
