No doubt trying to cash in on the release of “Snakes on a Plane,” these bastards have beat Sam Jackson and Co. to the punch… and only three days earlier. Say it ain’t so!
After seeing the trailer for Joe Carnahan’s new action/comedy feature, “Smokin’ Aces,” I’m officially intriqued. What looks to be a mix between “Kill Bill,” “True Romance” and “Rounders” also boasts one of the coolest casts to date, including Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Peter Berg, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Ryan Reynolds and Jeremy Piven.
Based on Sunday’s estimates, courtesy of boxofficemojo.com:
1) Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby: $23 million ($91.2 million, second week)
Will Ferrell gets to reign one last week before the Greatest Movie Ever Made (that would be “Snakes on a Plane,” for the unwise) hits the theaters and shakes us to our very foundation.
2) Step Up: $21.1 million (first week)
They lost us once we realized this wasn’t a movie about the Stereo MC’s.
3) World Trade Center: $19 million ($26.8 million, first week)
Too soon? No, try too boring.
4) Barnyard: The Original Party Animals: $10.1 million ($34.1 million million, second week)
We refuse to dignify this movie with a clever one-liner about it. It’s just not worth the trouble.
5) Pulse: $8.5 million (first week)
Scout’s honor, we didn’t even know this movie was released this weekend.
So am I, which is why I instantly clicked on this link to a 90-second clip from “Snakes on a Plane.” Gaboon vipers have big, big teeth. Ask the captain.
So are the folks at Slate.
