After seeing the trailer for Joe Carnahan’s new action/comedy feature, “Smokin’ Aces,” I’m officially intriqued. What looks to be a mix between “Kill Bill,” “True Romance” and “Rounders” also boasts one of the coolest casts to date, including Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Peter Berg, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Ryan Reynolds and Jeremy Piven.

In one of the best matches of actor and role we’ve seen in quite some time, Philip Seymour Hoffman has reportedly been offered the role of the Penguin in Christopher Nolan’s sequel to “Batman Begins.” No word yet on whether the Oscar-winner will accept the role (and we’re sure his asking price has just notched up a tad), but we’re hoping the chance to chew some serious scenery (not to mention a few live minnows) will be sufficiently appealing to Mr. Hoffman.
Meanwhile, let’s just hope those Ryan Phillippe-Harvey Dent rumors are simply someone’s idea of a sick joke. I’d cast Reese Witherspoon as the future Two-Face before I’d cast her husband, and any of the other rumored actors up for the part (Jake Gyllenhaal, Liev Schreiber, even Josh Lucas) would do a better job…as would, say, Paul Bettany or Jude Law, if the producers are looking to spread a wider net.

It’s official! Well, sort of.
“A very trusted source” over at Latino Review has confirmed that Heath Ledger was offered the role of The Joker in the sequel to “Batman Begins.”
The rumor comes courtesy of the same guys who delivered the first scoop about Brandon Routh winning the role of Superman before anyone else, and I must say, it’s a very interesting casting decision. Ledger is a much younger actor (as I’m sure director Christopher Nolan was hoping for), and he’s got both the talent and the smile to deliver the goods. But is it true? I guess we’ll just have to wait around to find out…
The folks at Newsarama – one of the best sources for comic-related news out there – have an interview with John Hefferman, screenwriter of “Snakes On A Plane.” It’s far from exclusively about the film, but it does offer a little bit of info you might not have read before.
