The Year in Movies: 2005

Bullz-Eye.com’s two lead movie reviewers, David Medsker and Jason Zingale, have laid it all out there, giving their lists of the best and worst the 2005 movie menu had to offer. They couldn’t see everything — quite frankly, they didn’t want to see everything — but they still managed to catch damn near every movie that hit theaters in 2005. Some were good (“Kung Fu Hustle”), some were bad (“Aeon Flux”), some were just god-awful (“Brothers Grimm”), and some simply blew them away (“Batman Begins”).

Some of David’s best movies of the year included “March of the Penguins,” “Sin City,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Jarhead,” while his worst list included “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo” and “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

Jason, meanwhile, listed “Crash” as his best film of the year while also showing some love to “A History of Violence,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Brokeback Mountain.” “Last Days,” “The Aristocrats” and “Just Friends,” meanwhile, wound up on his worst list.

Boo! Best horror flicks

“Poltergeist.” “Psycho.” “Dawn of the Dead.” “The Shining.” When people start talking about the best all-time horror movies, these are some of the names that start getting thrown around. They all made Bullz-Eye.com’s list, along with some classic baddies like Jason, Freddy, Leatherface and Michael Meyers.

But do “Jaws” and “Alien” belong on a list like this? Sure, they both scared the hell out of me, but when I think “horror movie,” I think “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” not “Jaws.”

The good, the bad, the sequels

Bullz-Eye.com recently ran its list of movie history’s Best & Worst Sequels. Some of the favorites included “Rocky III,” “Toy Story II,” “Batman Begins,” “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” and “The Godfather: Part II.” Meanwhile, train wrecks like “Jaws: The Revenge,” “Blues Brothers 2000,” “Caddyshack II” and “Speed 2: Cruise Control” made the worst list.

I want to know how “Christmas Vacation,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” were merely listed in the “Also Receiving Votes” section.
