lLast night on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples,” the teammates who had to endure 30 days at home had to weigh in to start the show. And they were told that the one with the highest percentage of weight loss would win immunity for one week for their team. Shannon went first and lost 15 pounds, and was visibly upset, thinking she would have lost twice that. Boo hoo. Then Laura lost 7, Cathy 8, Aubrey 2, Carla 20 (though her starting weight was 368, so a lower percentage than Shannon) and finally Sione lost 25 pounds, snatching victory from Shannon and causing his cousin and partner Felipe to hoot and howl like a monkey. Does anyone else find this guy annoying? I mean, dude, take it easy!
For the challenge, it was a true team event, where the contestants were tied to each other and had to unwind a large amount of rope from a giant spool, and then hope they took enough slack to make it to a finish line. The winning team would get a choice between $5,000 or a 2 pound advantage at the weigh in. Joelle made a comment to Carla that they could win $2500 each, showing just where her priorites are. But no matter, the yellow team of Mandi and Aubrey won.
At the last chance workout, they kept showing Joelle and her utter lack of focus, and at this point her trainer Bob Harper threw his hands up and said he couldn’t help her if she didn’t have an inner fire. They also showed Shannon carrying a sweaty Sione on her back for about 20 feet, and holy crap, what an amazing feat..no joke!
The weigh in began at around 9pm ET in real time and took about 45 minutes with commercials, but took Mrs. Mike and I about 5 minutes on TiVo. Seriously, this is the longest 45 minutes on television. Felipe and Sione went first, and even with immunity, clocked in at 11 pounds. Not bad. Mandi and Aubrey had a 2 pound advantage, but still lost 16 pounds without it. Then Joelle and Carla. Carla lost 9 pounds and Joelle, to the surprise of no one, lost zero pounds. She then proceeded to hallucinate on camera, saying she was working hard and didn’t understand this. Dane and Blaine lost 20, Tara and Laura 25, Ron and Mike 13, Helen and Shannon 18, and Cathy and Kristen 16. The bottom two groups were Joelle and Carla, and Ron and Mike, a very large father and son whose 13 pound weight loss wasn’t enough.
Back in the dorms, each team on the chopping block got to state their case. Everyone felt bad for Carla, and kind of let Joelle have it for not working hard enough for herself and her teammate. Again, she gave some lame excuse and was under the ridiculous assumption that she was working hard enough. Ron spoke for his team and said “everyone on my team 100% wants to be here.” At this point I feared that everyone would vote Ron and Mike off, because the wrong team seems to go home each week. But thankfully the first four teams voted off Carla and Joelle, eliminating them without seeing the other teams’ votes. It says a lot that everyone was hugging Carla and nobody hugged Joelle. Then it said more when they showed the two getting together at home after weeks of not speaking to each other. Carla still wanted to know why Joelle let her down, but Joelle wasn’t hearing it, and said that she no longer wanted to be friends, and walked out. Yikes. A very sad story, but Joelle is clearly in her own world.
Anyway, Joelle has managed to lose 57 pounds, and Carla, who was the biggest woman ever on the show, has lost 87 pounds, putting her under 300. Yes, justice was served to Joelle, but poor Carla. Here’s hoping she is in contention to win the $100K at the finale. See you guys next week…
