Year: 2006 (Page 116 of 228)

DVD shuffle: 06/06/06

Out on DVD this week:

1) Underworld: Evolution – RENT: The film is nowhere close to as entertaining as the original, but fans of the series will still want to check out how the next chapter shapes up.

2) Firewall – PASS: Harrison Ford is getting old. Here’s proof.

3) Glory Road – RENT: D’you “Remember the Titans”? Well, it’s the same movie, but with basketball.

4) Running Scared – RENT: I’ve yet to see the Paul Walker crime thriller, but I’m eager to. That’s gotta count for something.

5) Entourage: Season Two – BUY: The series only gets better, and the second season is evidence of that.

6) Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid: Collector’s Edition – BUY: The ultimate onscreen duo: Newman. Redford.

Also out this week is a special unrated edition of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” Sarah Silverman’s “Jesus Is Magic,” the Criterion release of “Dazed & Confused,” and five themed actor packs from FOX for George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston.

We’re not dead… yet.

Fans of HBO’s western drama “Deadwood” and FX’s crime drama “The Shield” can rest a little bit easier tonight. Both shows have been renewed for new seasons… kind of.

In lieu of the third (and final) season of “Deadwood,” creator David Milch made a deal with HBO to produce two, two-hour movies that would act as a way of conveniently wrapping up the series set to air following the new 13 episodes of the show this summer. According to the source, Milch was actually offered a six episode fourth season, but he turned it down in favor of the four-hour wrap-up.

Meanwhile, TV Guide is reporting that a sixth season of “The Shield” has been greenlit to go into production following the filming of the final ten, season five episodes slated for early 2007. This is actually bad news for fans of the show, who have finally come to cope with the fact that their favorite show is finally ending. Is there really enough story here to continue the series? I think not. Following the death of Curtis Lemansky at the end of season five, I can’t imagine creator Shawn Ryan not wanting to finish up the drama before it gets out of hand.

Snakes on a U2 parody

First, he made a hilarious “audition reel” for “Snakes on a Plane,” where he did impressions of Christopher Walken, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. Now the heretofore unknown DCLugi has taken the U2 song “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own” and, well, made it better, by appropriating it to fit “SoaP” and its star, Samuel L. Jackson. Funny, funny stuff.

We were also pleased as punch to learn that Sam was snapped at the MTV Movie Awards wearing a version of the same “SoaP” shirt owned by myself and Tyler Durden. His, of course, is black, and has ‘M.F.’ in between ‘a’ and ‘plane.’

Guess what song topped the “Do Not Play” list at the wedding?

zac hanson

The Littlest Hanson got married this weekend.

Just so we’re clear, at age 20, Zac Hanson was not even old enough to legally partake in the champagne toast at his own wedding…but he got hitched to 22-year-old Kate Tucker just the same.

Then again, middle brother Taylor Hanson, an elder statesman at 23, has been married for five years and is the father of two kids…so, by that standard, little Zac is actually running surprisingly late in the game.

We at Premium Hollywood wish Zac and his new bride all the best…and we swear it totally wasn’t us who kept pressuring the DJ to play “MMMBop” all night at the reception.
