Yes, I’m here to audition for “Word to Your Mother: The Vanilla Ice Story”

I felt like I was going to fall asleep halfway through tonight’s episode, Ari had very little screen time, and we haven’t seen Sloan now for at least two or three weeks…and yet, this was one of the season’s best episodes. Bar none.

I mean, come on, Vince hooks up with a chick he meets at a bookstore only to find out, while they’re naked in bed, that she’s getting married. But, hey, it’s cool because he’s on her “list.” You know, the “celebrities we’re allowed to bang” list that some people make with their significant others but very few actually have a chance to cash in on. Well this chick did and, I’m sorry, but that’s just fucking sweet. “Friends” did a list episode once upon a time but, even though Ross actually met one of his freebie celebs (Isabella Rossellini), you knew nothing would ever come of their lists. Not so on “Entourage,” though. For once, we get to see someone’s list in action, and the fact that we only found out about it after the fact made the payoff that much sweeter.

There is a lesson to be learned here, kids: If you live in L.A., you’d be wise to choose the names on your freebie list very carefully, because you never know when you’re going to bump into one of your choices at a bookstore. That and, while you may think you’re hot shit when you’re taking Sundance by storm or starring in your own summer blockbuster, you haven’t officially arrived until you’ve been listed by a soon-to-be-married hottie in the middle of the afternoon.

But that wasn’t the highlight of the episode. For the second week in a row, that honor goes to Johnny Drama. While his little brother was getting listed in one hotel room, Drama was getting Vanilla Iced in another hotel room. Watching that dude hang Drama over the balcony by his heels, a la Suge Knight, was priceless and will probably go down as one of the most memorable moments in the series’ history, especially since one of the guys recognized Drama from “Viking Quest.” Of course, the downside here is that Turtle’s career as a manager appears to be over before it really started but, hey, at least he got his $40,000, right?

Of course, the most significant development tonight was E stumbling upon what could turn into the signature role of Vince’s young career. For a while, that title seemed to be reserved for the lead in “Medellin” as Pablo Escobar, but playing Joey Ramone in “I Wanna Be Sedated” should jumpstart Vince’s suddenly cold career. The writing this season has been pretty damn good, despite some hiccups, and while the story stalled a bit early on (does anybody miss Dom?), they’ve set this up beautifully for a great final two episodes. Having Vince play Joey Ramone is a brilliant move, and doing it after he got booted from “Aquaman 2” and shutout of “Medellin” was even better. Maybe there’s an Oscar nod in Vince’s near future after all.

Thank God for the MTV Video Music Awards

If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t even realize that MTV still showed videos.

Okay, sorry, I always feel obliged to take a shot at the decidedly non-music-oriented programming of the network. Now that that’s out of the way, just in case you were losing sleep over the fact that the Video Music Awards are only three weeks away and MTV still hasn’t announced who’s going to be hosting the festivities, prepare to have your insomnia cured.

If you can’t be bothered to click on the above link, I’ll satisfy your curiosity. The host will be…this man:

Oh, no, wait, I’m sorry, that’s just my opinion of the Awards for the last decade or so…

Neighbors say they heard a Screech…

Actor / comedian Dustin Diamond – formerly known as Screech, the character he played on the Saturday morning staple “Saved By The Bell” – says that a woman broke into his hotel room and tried to make off with some video games before he held her against a door and waited for police to arrive.

The woman tried in vain to explain that she was looking for A.C. Slater but had been misinformed, but the cops weren’t buying it.

“Next time someone breaks into my hotel room, I’ll be ready.”

Diamond, meanwhile, is still hocking t-shirts in an attempt to save his house. He’s on tour doing stand-up, but if he’s not coming to your area, you can still get an idea about his show by going here.

Stand Up or Shut Up

No, I’m not ordering you to stand up or shut up. I’m here to tell you about a new micro series airing on the Starz Network every Friday evening.

The show began on July 21 and features stand up comic students that are attending the American Comedy Institute in New York City and each episode chronicles the students being interviewed, performing and talking about their struggles to make it in a difficult and changing industry.

Hosted by comic Michael Somerville, the first episode had each comic talking about and, of course, poking fun at political figures. Most of the poking centered around George W. Bush, and Steve Rosenfield from the ACI dissected the reasons why Bush and other figures are so easy to poke fun at.

What this show lacked, at least in episode one, is laughs. Aussie Josh Zepps seemed to me to be the only one to be remotely funny, and the show itself had a very serious tone. Maybe that’s what they were going for, but if you’re going to be a show about stand up comics, it makes sense to inject more laughs.

We’ll see what happens, but for a 10 minute show, it’s certainly worth checking out and keeping an eye on.

Josh Blue Takes the Crown

Last night’s “Last Comic Standing” season finale was a reunion of sorts. Former champs Dat Phan, John Heffron, and Alonzo Bodden all performed, as well as show creator Jay Mohr. All of that made one thing perfectly clear……the level of talent this season was not nearly up to par with previous seasons.

First of all, Theo Von was announced as the download champion in the competition no one really cared about except Theo. Well, I guess it’s a good thing to put on his resume.

But after the hilarious performances (I think Heffron and Bodden are as funny as any comics out there today), Josh Blue and Ty Barnett lined up with host Unfunny Clark for the moment of truth. And in anti-climactic fashion, Blue was anointed the champ. I say anti-climactic, because both of these guys were funny, but this season left a lot to be desired, and each week the remaining comics were there strictly by default. This show needs to shake things up, and bringing back Mohr to host would be a good start.

But I shouldn’t take away from Josh Blue’s spotlight here…..the dude has become a role model for those with disabilities. Cerebral Palsey might keep many others out of a competition like this, but Josh is living proof that if you follow your dreams, anything can happen, no matter what any physical disabilities have to say about it. Kudos to him for that, and here’s hoping he has a long and successful career.

And now it’s time for Art Vandalay to hibernate. Good night all, Vandalay is OUT.
