“Yep.” “Yep.” “Yep.” “Mmm-hmmm.”

As you’ve no doubt guessed, the subject line are the exact quotes offered up by Hank Hill, Dale Gribble, Bill Dauterive, and Boomhauer upon being asked if they were excited about the renewal of “King of the Hill” for a 13th season.

Per Fox’s press release, “‘King of the Hill’ has received numerous accolades over the past 12 years, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 1999, a Nancy Susan Reynolds Award in 1997, a Women’s Image Network Award in 2004 and Environmental Media Awards in 2001, 2003 and 2005. The series has also garnered numerous nominations for Annie Awards, Prism Awards and Shine Awards.” Funny, then, that it’s so clearly the redheaded stepchild of the network’s Sunday night animation block. Have you seen the show’s DVD sets? After Season 2, someone apparently decided that the series didn’t warrant the cost of compiling special features, and as of the most recent season to receive release – Season 6 – the studio’s idea of a special feature was to put a puzzle on the back of one of the DVD cases.

Are you kidding me?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally psyched that the series is coming back; not only is it hilarious, but it’s remarkably sweet and sentimental, and it’s no less than a minor miracle that they’ve been able to maintain their level of quality for so long. I just wish Fox would show it more love beyond the annual cursory renewal.

Final season of “Battlestar Galactica” begins on Friday

With the writers’ strike throwing the TV schedule into a tailspin, it has been difficult to keep up on when our favorite shows are returning. “Battlestar Galactica” begins its fourth and final season on Friday at 9 PM (ET and PT) on SciFi. If you want to watch last season’s finale again, SciFi is running the two-parter, “Crossroads,” at 1 AM and 2 AM (ET and PT). If you live in the middle of the country, check your listings as the time changes depending on which SciFi feed you receive.

Remember to check back on Saturday for my blog of premiere episode.

TV’s Back! – The Post-Strike Return

Michael Franti once described television as “the drug of the nation, breeding ignorance and feeding radiation.” As such, we’re guessing he isn’t nearly as excited as we are that we’re finally beginning to see the fruits of Hollywood’s writers at last being able to put pen back to paper. CBS clearly got the jump on everyone else with the premiere of their new episodes, but as you can see, the other networks will soon be joining in the fun as well, offering up all the fresh new comedy and drama we’ve been craving for so very long. Okay, maybe it hasn’t been that long – as soon as the strike wrapped up, you probably noticed how some series magically “found” a few episodes they’d unabashedly been sitting on – but it’s damned sure been long enough.

Check out our coverage here, then head back over to tell us what shows you’re most psyched to see return!

American Idol: America Wises Up

Just when I was fearing the worst, America stepped up its game last night much the way the “American Idol” finalists stepped up theirs on Tuesday night. They got it right for a change.

It kicked off with another awful group number, Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5.” Can someone please stick a fork in these group numbers? They are just, um, not very entertaining. That’s too nice…they are bordering on pure agony, okay?

Anyway, straight to business. Michael Johns, safe. David Archuleta, safe. Carly…a moment of Ryan Seacrest making her dangle, then safe. Commercial break….and oddly enough, Syesha Mercado was in this commercial for some technical institute, and I did a double take…like maybe it was one of those “Saturday Night Live” commercials, but it was real! She is, after all, an actress when she isn’t a finalist on the biggest show in America.

Then they took some callers, and the best question was when some woman asked Simon why he apologizes after criticizing someone. Simon smiled and replied “I like you!”

Then the Clark Brothers performed…these kids have some mad skills on their instruments, but that singer is scary….like he was shouting the entire song.

Okay, back to what we came here for….David Cook, safe, after he assured America that his hospital visit the night before was purely precautionary and that it was blown out of proportion. Dude has high blood pressure is all. Ramiel, Bottom 3. Hooray, America knows what it’s doing! Kristy Lee Cook, who held a piece of paper that said “Bottom 3,” practically willed herself there, and she was right. Wow, America, nice work.

Then they did some profiles of Idol alum from Nashville, since Dolly Parton was the theme of this week. Bucky Covington, Phil Stacey and Bo Bice were each featured, and are all having nice little careers after the show. I know Carrie Underwood is a mega-star right now, but I still think Bo was ROBBED.

Syesha, safe, which meant Brooke or Jason. Jason, safe, Brooke to the Bottom 3. So it was down to Ramiel, Kristy and Brooke. But first Dolly Parton performed her new single, “Jesus and Gravity.” If you don’t like Dolly Parton, there is seriously something wrong with you….she is one of the most infectiously happy performers I’ve ever seen, and she spreads that to the audience.

Okay, finally the grueling hour was coming to a close. Brooke, back to safety…..holy crap, America is smart! Mrs. Mike had predicted Ramiel earlier in the hour, and she has not been wrong yet. And she’s still not wrong…Kristy, safe, Ramiel, you’re outta here. You know, she has a nice voice but this competition is heating up and she just doesn’t have the mad skills of some of the others remaining.

Here are my power rankings:

1. David Cook
2. David Archuleta
3. Michael Johns
4. Brooke White
5. Carly Smithson
6. Syesha Mercado
7. Jason Castro
8. Kristy Lee Cook

I still like Brooke more than Carly, though America may not agree….but hey, that’s why they play the games. See you all next week…

Hell’s Kitchen: Let the Dysfunction Begin

Last night was the premier of Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” one of two Gordon Ramsay shows which is now in its fourth season. As usual, Ramsay has chosen 15 contestants to effectively interview for a job as executive chef at his soon to be opened London LA restaurant in Los Angeles. And also as usual, many of these contestants were probably chosen for their goofy, dysfunctional personalities, so to give this show some flair and ratings.

I’m not going to run down each contestant but I will highlight a few of them who stood out for various reasons.

First of all, the contestants were all picked up in a bus and taken to Hell’s Kitchen headquarters, and in what could be described as an April Fool’s joke, Ramsey was made over with a huge fake nose and long-hair wig, and sat in the bus to observe his applicants. A couple of them spouted off, most notably Craig with the big chef’s hat, and Bobby, who glossed himself “The Black Gordon Ramsay.” Oh boy.

Once the contestants arrived, and restaurant host Jean Phillippe Continue reading »
