Are you checking in with “The Office”?

Just because you’re on summer vacation doesn’t mean those hard-working drones at “The Office” are.

Okay, well, boss Michael Scott is MIA — but is that really anything new? Even when he’s in the office, he’s not exactly all there.

And, fine, Jim and Pam happen to be off shooting movies over the summer. We’ll allow that, because, frankly, we’re not yet ready to see what happens after that season-ending cliffhanger kiss of theirs. We can wait until September for that.

The important thing is, you can still get your fix of “The Office,” in a tasty three-minute bite, every Thursday on NBC.com. As reported previously in Premium Hollywood, NBC has produced ten original webisodes of its hit comedy, focusing on the efforts of the accounting team to locate $3,000 in missing Dunder Mifflin funds.

Three of the ten have been posted so far, and each has revealed at least one priceless comic moment for the characters involved. Watch for Kevin’s subtle condolence to Oscar, Phyllis’s lazy exit from her interview, and Meredith’s complaint that her ex-husband got “the good kid” in their divorce. At last, the second-string players get their moment in the sun.

Brit “Office”mates invade NBC

Just when the American “Office” had finally cut all ties to the British version, NBC has announced that members of the original cast are scheduled to guest star on the show’s third season. Star Ricky Gervais most likely won’t appear, but possible cameos include Mackenzie Crook (“Gareth”), Martin Freeman (“Tim”) and Lucy Davis (“Dawn). Personally, I think this is a wrong move on the network’s part, since it’s taken two years just for people to stop critizing the U.S. version for mimicing/ruining the original series. Then again, this could make the show even better.

Just one question: Will they be playing their characters from the series, or will they be in different roles?

The More You Know…

Did anybody else happen to catch the mockcommercials on NBC tonight featuring the cast of “The Office”? I nearly missed them while speeding through the other stupid ads (i heart TiVo), but was lucky enough to see them all; there was even one that aired during “My Name Is Earl.” Originality: this is exactly why the series is doing as well as it is. NBC has definitely got something here. Maybe next week we’ll see the cast of “Scrubs” doing fake PSA’s of their own. We can only hope.

A new reason to love summer

Dreading the summer TV doldrums? Have no fear: NBC is set to give you a fun-filled fix of 10 brand-new episodes of “The Office” this summer.

What’s the catch? Well, technically, they’re webisodes, not episodes, and can only be seen at NBC.com. Also, perennial favorite cast members Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer will not appear, as the webisodes’ storyline focuses on the accounting department’s hunt for $3,000 in missing company cash (and Steve, John & Jenna will be off making movies). However, resident basket case Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), as well as several other supporting cast members will also appear to assist (or, in Dwight’s case, more likely impede) the accounting team in their quest.

Will these episodes be just as fully enjoyable as a standard “Office” half-hour, sans the poignant Jim-Pam-Roy love triangle and the self-absorbed antics of one Michael Scott? Probably not. Will they nonetheless be a vast improvement over “Big Brother 7,” “America’s Hottest Grandmas,” and other typical summer TV fare? Hell, yes.

Jim’s going on a trip

Just as Pam’s wedding planning started to heat up, Jim decided to take a trip, which is going to take place during her wedding. There you have it, folks…this season’s cliffhanger.

Pam seemed truly shocked to hear that Jim was going to miss her wedding, so will the light finally go on before he gets on the plane? Or will she need to walk down the aisle before realizing her mistake?

Maybe the funniest thing about the trip is that he’s going to Australia. Jim is so repulsed by the idea of Pam marrying that Neanderthal, that he literally has to be on the other side of the planet when it happens.

Great stuff.
