Looking for the Double K

Is it just me, or did the trip to Utah fly by? It seems like it was only yesterday that the escapees were farting around Illinois, trying to find transportation. Now, everyone is out West, and they’re all looking for the money. Even Agent Mahone is headed in that direction, after putting all the pieces together using the information miraculously retrieved from Michael’s hard drive.

It seems funny that T-Bag would be the first one to the map, but that would explain why the guy in the records room was acting so strangely. I just don’t see T-Bag as a “we need to go to the city archives to find the parcel by parcel map” kind of a guy. That kind of research is generally better left to the Willow Rosenbergs of the world. And where exactly did he hide it? That part wasn’t too clear. He mentioned something about a “coin purse,” which makes me wonder why the brothers didn’t strip search him, though I would understand their reluctance.

Regardless, T-Bag is the map now, but suburban sprawl has spread over the land where the money is buried, so the gang has the work cut out for them. Luckily, there’s help on the way – Sucre and C-Note should arrive in town during the next episode. Something tells me that C-Note will eventually buy that RV he had his eye on.

I thought it was a nice twist when Agent Evil played it off that he was gay in order to earn an invite to Sara’s crib. He has proven time and time again that he is wickedly smart, and will stop at nothing to complete a mission. It’s not clear what the deal was with the out-of-service phone number, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.

I also wonder how deeply the Governor will dig. Sara’s apology seemed to affect him, and he’s someone that could actually get some answers. Eventually, someone will clear Lincoln’s name, and right now my money is on the Governor. Mahone used to be the frontrunner, but the pill popping has me worried.

Bounty hunter rule #1…

…no lap dances while you’re on duty.

Boy, I really thought Bellick and the boys would be together for more than one episode. I don’t believe they showed it as it happened, but I’m assuming the Russian Bride stole the knife during the lap dance, using the attempted gun theft as a distraction. Otherwise, I don’t know how Lincoln would have been able to get it. Anyway, I’m glad the brothers got the drop on Bellick – he is the consummate asshole and he was getting a little too cocky once he got the boys in custody. However, you’d think a career prison guard would be a little more careful with his weapons, especially with $5 M on the line.

The writers used the “Silence of the Lambs” switcheroo again this week, leading us to believe that it was Tweener’s driver that was calling the police. Only Agent Mahone surprised Abruzzi as he was seeking revenge, and now one of the cooler characters on the show is dead. Unfortunately, this time it’s for real. This begs the question: when people choose to seek vengeance instead of hightailing out of the country, does it ever really work out for them? Of all the escapees, Abruzzi had the connections and the money to truly disappear, but instead he blows his chance to enjoy a long life with his family. What a pity.

Mahone’s hunch about the river yielded Michael’s hard drive and it won’t be long before he learns about the money. This will put him back on their trail faster than you can say, “They cancelled ‘Invasion.’”

I was happy to see the girl escape T-Bag’s clutches without incident, but it looks like her father is either dead or in a world of hurt. I took a peek at the scenes for next week, and it looks like T-Bag will run into Michael and Lincoln in Small Town, U.S.A. What a coincidence! Still, it will be good to get the band back together.

And Michael reached out (again) to Sara, unknowingly putting her in even more danger. I’m not sure there is anything quite as creepy as seeing Agent Evil earning Sara’s trust in those NA meetings.

Band on the run

I was wondering why Sucre decided to hop out of the El Camino instead of just putting it in drive to beat the train to the intersection and ditch the cop. But once he reached his friend’s place, it all made sense. Call me disloyal, but if my convict buddy tells me he’s been up for 72 hours straight and he wants to take my vintage motorcycle for a blistering non-stop roadtrip to Vegas, I’m saying, “Heeeeeeeell no! Go steal a car.” Had Sucre driven the El Camino to his buddy’s place, he’d already have transportation, and we wouldn’t get the image of him (which is no doubt forthcoming) making cross-country tracks on a vintage ride to break up his girlfriend’s wedding. Now all he has to do is hook up with the the Flying Elvises (Utah chapter) and he’ll be good to go.

By the way, how exactly did Sucre avoid the repeated glances of the motorcycle cop as he exited the car? That cop was watching him like a hawk.

We found out that Agent Mahone has some demons of his own – namely, a prisoner that’s still on the loose. He’s so obsessed with this cat that he’s resorted to popping pills on the sly. And here I thought he was cool, calm and collected.

I like Bellick’s new role as a bounty hunter, but I’m not sure I like the other guard as his sidekick. I suppose Bellick needs someone to act as a placeholder in conversations as he says his wicked lines, and I doubt anyone else would go with him. Here’s an idea: the writers should have given him a dog to talk to – maybe a big Rottweiler named “Eddie”. Now that would be cool.

C-Note made contact with his family and says that he has “a plan” to get some money. Surely, he’s referring to the millions buried in Utah, but does he have any idea where it is? Anyway, his wife turned the front porch light on, inferring she trusts him, but at the same time she was talking to an FBI agent. Is she going to give him up?

And how about poor Sara Tancredi? Of all the characters on the show, I feel most protective of her troubled soul. She feels betrayed by Michael, but he has promised a reunion, and now Agent Evil is tracking her. How creepy was it when he showed up in her support meeting? Agent Evil is hoping to get a line on Michael and Lincoln, and figures Sara is his best bet. But it’s a pretty big gamble to think that Michael actually cared enough about Sara to risk capture just to “make things right.” He had no idea how deeply their relationship went.

Everyone is making their slow marches West, where Terrence Steadman is holed up in Montana, where Sucre’s girlfriend is getting married in Vegas, and most importantly, where the money is buried beneath a silo in Utah.

Hey, at least they’re stealing from good movies

Last week’s “Silence of the Lambs” switcheroo moment was followed up by a “Fugitive” moment this week. When the guys were trying to rescue LJ in the elevator, Agent Mahone realized that neither guy was going to shoot him. Could this be the seed that will eventually result in Mahone helping to bring those responsible for the framing of Lincoln Burrows to justice? If “The Fugitive” is to be our guide, it’s going to take a lot of evidence to convince Mahone that the guys might be innocent.

One thing’s for sure: it’s pretty convenient that Westmoreland’s money and Terrence Steadman are both in Utah. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mahone discovered Steadman’s prison by the end of the season.
