Jack Black back on the attack

Even as his fans get all giddy about the impending release of “Nacho Libre” and, in a few months, the Tenacious D movie, Jack Black is preparing for his next picture.

Written by Michael Gondry (“The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), the film – according to VH-1 – “will follow a junkyard worker (Black) who is convinced that a local power plant is gaining influence over his brain. When he attempts to sabotage the plant, the resulting magnetic field erases all the tapes in the video store where his best friend works. Afraid that the mishap will cost the friend his job, the two become determined to maintain the membership of a little old lady who is the store’s only loyal customer. Enlisting the help of anyone they can find, the group sets out to re-enact every movie that she decides to rent — including ‘Robocop,’ ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Back to the Future’ — filming each one themselves and passing it off to her as the original version.”

Please, Movie Gods, let this be even half as funny as it sounds…

In a world where “RV” has made $50 million dollars, it had to happen.

Coming soon to theaters: “Jackass 2.”

All you need to know about it is summed up nicely in this quote from director Jeff Tremaine:

MTV: Some of the best moments in the first “Jackass” movie came when the stunts made the camera crew vomit. Did anything in “Number 2” make you lose it?
Tremaine: There are a few things that repulsed me, but it takes a lot. I’ve been working with these guys forever, so it really takes something extraordinary for me to get queasy. But yes, it has been done on this movie.
MTV: You vomited?
Tremaine: I didn’t actually vomit, no, but I came close. I had to gag a little bit.
MTV: What got to you?
Tremaine: There is a sequence with some horse semen. That was a little tough to observe.

Damn, Harold, why couldn’t you give US the exclusive…?

At the tail end of his interview with Bullz-Eye.com, director Harold Ramis hemmed and hawed about the film he was starting to work on with Owen Wilson, not wanting to chat it up very much because “I’m so afraid someone will get wind of what it’s about,” conceding little more than that “it’s odd. Not odd in an uncommercial way, but it’s risky. It’s a big movie. So we’ll see if the studio has the heart for it.”

Finally, however, Ramis has gone on the record – though, sadly, not with Bullz-Eye – and admitted to VH-1 that the script he and Wilson have co-written is a comedy entitled “The Year 1,” that it’s vaguely reminiscent of Mel Brooks’ “History of the World, Pt. 1” (though, one hopes, more consistently funny), and that “it’s driven by fundamentalism and my concerns about fundamentalism.”

“It’s a look at the early history of civilization,” Ramis said, “using Genesis, the first book of the Bible, as kind of an emotional psycho-social template. It’s a comedy, and when you see it, it’s gonna feel like a broad ‘Ten Commandments’ parody more than anything. A sandal epic comedy.”

Hmmm. Well, all we can say is “tread carefully.” We still remember the poor, misguided people who picketed “Monty Python’s Life of Brian.”

Face it, true believers! This one’s got it all!!!

Marvel Comics, not wanting to let moss grow undertheir feet after the upcoming release of “X-Men 3,” is already penciling in who’ll be helming its next few comic book inspired feature films.

* Jon Favreau (“Elf”) will be directing “Iron Man,” a flick which was, for years, chatted up as a possible Tom Cruise vehicle.

* David Self (“The Road to Perdition”) will be writing a script for the oft-discussed-but-never-acted-upon “Captain America” movie, as well as taking a stab at scripts for “Deathlok” and “Namor, the Sub Mariner.”

* Zak Penn – who wrote “X3” – was selected to put pen to paper and write a script for a “Hulk” sequel…which will make someone very happy.

* Mark Protosevich (“Poseidon”) is taking a stab at writing the script for “Thor,” whose biggest moment in motion picture history currently still remains “Adventures in Babysitting.”

* Andrew Marlowe (“Air Force One,” “Hollow Man”) is composing a “Nick Fury” screenplay…which has potential as long as the film doesn’t follow in the footsteps of the TV movie about Fury, which starred David Hasselhoff. (Still, that would increase the box office returns in Germany…)

* And, lastly, Edgar Wright (“Shaun of the Dead”) is to write, produce, and direct…wait for it…”Ant Man.” I have to say, of this entire bunch, this is the flick that seems like it has the most potential. “Shaun of the Dead” kicked ass. I’d love to see Wright turn the superhero genre on its head like he did for zombie movies…
