An interesting alternative to YouTube

Not to put down the greatness of YouTube and all that is has brought us so far, but if you’re looking for another cool video site to check out, then by all means head over to Stage 6. You’ll have to sign up for a free account and download the site’s divx player, but once you do, you can check out all sorts of video there. Among the bunch, the infamous flick Salo in its entirety. Also rare live music clips that YouTube doesn’t seem to have and lots, lots more. Definitely worth a good look.

“Blade Runner” definitive version coming soon

Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner,” a film that was originally critically and commercially damned but in recent times has become a cult favorite will be getting its definitive director’s cut re-release this winter. Subtitled “The Final Cut,” this latest DVD edition will present the film as Ridley Scott had originally intended.

“I wasn’t used at that point in my career to having too many cooks in the kitchen, and I think there were many people who started to get involved,” says Scott regarding all the extra tinkering that occurred with the film before its initial release.

Film Academy nixes sales of statuettes

People will do anything for a buck. And when it comes to selling Oscars of actresses long deceased, why not? This was the case when an asking price of $500,000 for one of Mary Pickford’s awards recently appeared. However, the MPAA said no, no, and that according to a contractual clause the things are only worth 10 bucks. That’s right, 10 bucks. And now they’re going to sue the perp who tried to extort such a grandiose price for the award.

(Kids, Mary Pickford was a silent movie actress. A real doll. Right up there with Lillian Gish.)
