Last night’s “Hell’s Kitchen” featured some words of wisdom that were really enlightening, but more on that later. They started off with a challenge, and that was a tag team kitchen relay. Each team had to cook three dishes , and each chef had just six minutes for their part. It was close, but once again the red team won the challenge, and their prize was a day of swimming and surfing lessons. The blue team, meanwhile, had to clean Hell’s Kitchen. And a subplot was beginning….that of Jen and Bobby bickering.
For the dinner service, the teams were able to create their own menus and present them to Ramsay. The red team was working well together, but the blue team was led (if you call it that) by Jen, who strong-armed her own ideas into the fold. Ramsay practically ridiculed Jen’s ideas, especially the halibut wrapped in squash (blech). He then told LouRoss and the others to step up and let their ideas come through, and with choices more like grilled steak and salmon, Ramsay was pleased.
The customers were allowed to choose from either the red or blue menu, and the choices were pretty even. But Matt was under-cooking the pasta and also oversalting it and/or sweating into it. Yuck!!
The customers were sending it back and Corey and Christina essentially kicked Matt off the line and finished the service themselves. Meanwhile, the blue team was hurt by LouRoss undercooking the steak.
Ramsay said that while both teams finished the service, the quality suffered. He declared the blue team the losers, and asked Petrozza to nominate two teammates for elimination. Petrozza chose LouRoss and Jen…the first choice obvious, the other because, as he said, “Jen thinks she has more to teach than she does to learn, and I think she has more to learn than she does to teach.” Damn, how prophetic. I mean, I know Petrozza is 47, but even Ramsay was taken aback by that wisdom.
Then came another curveball….Ramsay asked Petrozza who should go home, and he rightfully chose LouRoss. Then more drama. Ramsay had Jen and Matt step forward and asked them to take off their jackets. Could he be sending them both home as well? No, he was just asking them to switch teams again. So now it’s the guys vs. the girls, like before. I can’t imagine Matt or Jen lasting much longer, and I think the contenders are showing their faces…..Christina, Corey, Bobby and Petrozza. I think I’m liking Corey’s chances, even though she’s annoying. We’ll see, but things are certainly, um, “heating up.” See you all next week…
