Calvert DeForest – also known as Larry “Bud” Melman – is dead.
Yes, I know, Letterman once showed a retrospective of DeForest’s work on his show, only to have it end with DeForest coming out on the stage and shouting, “I’m not dead, you pinhead!” Would that he’d do the same thing this time. There isn’t any official news report on this yet, but Mark Evanier has posted the news on his site, based on a report from Don “Donz” Giller on the David Letterman newsgroup…and, honestly, I don’t think Evanier would’ve posted it if he didn’t believe it to be 100% true. Too bad. DeForest has been retired since 2003, but his face is one that you know the second you see it.
Letterman came down with a case of stomach flu and didn’t host “The Late Show” last night, but count on him paying tribute to DeForest as soon as he returns.
