Only days after rumors hit the net that “Just My Luck” star Chris Pine had been offered the role of Captain Kirk in the upcoming “Star Trek” film, it’s now been confirmed that an offer is indeed on the table. So what’s keeping Pine from signing on to one of the biggest movies of the year? Well, a little film called “White Jazz.” You see, Pine has quite a choice to make: agree to play one of pop culture’s most famous icons (albeit in a small role), or play the second lead in Joe Carnahan’s much-anticipated next film. Fans of the “Star Trek” universe will no doubt be voting for the latter, but Pine is capable of filling the shoes – especially more than the other rumored candidate, Mike Vogel.
In even more surprising news, up-and-coming comedians Simon Pegg and John Cho have been cast in the roles of Scotty and Sulu, respectively. While again probably not a very popular casting decision with the fans, I couldn’t be happier. Pegg and Cho have both proven that they can handle the dramatic, and it’ll be interesting to see if the former even bothers with a Scottish accent. The actors join Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Eric Bana (as the villain Nero) and, of course, Leonard Nimoy (as old Spock).
