“How’s that for a topper…?”

Charles Nelson Reilly, who spent much of the 1970s as both a staple of “The Match Game” and a regular on Saturday morning television, has died at the age of 76.

Funnily enough, I just did an interview with Marty Krofft – soon to be posted on Bullz-Eye – where he and I discussed Charles Nelson Reilly’s role on “Lidsville” as the evil magician Horatio J. Hoo Doo (seen above). I always thought Reilly was a hoot, one of those staples of ’70s television who – rather unfairly, I thought – never managed to escape from his reputation as a staple of ’70s television. But the guy was a Tony-winning actor for “How To Succeed In Business Without Even Trying” who studied acting alongside Steve McQueen and Hal Holbrook, and although his film career never really took off (career highlight: “Cannonball Run II”), he stayed active on TV and doing animation voiceovers ’til the very end. His most memorable work in recent years…? I think you have to give it to his role as Jose Chung on “The X-Files,” a part he reprised on a later episode of “Millennium.” But he did a great comedic turn as himself on an episode of “The Larry Sanders Show,” and he also turned up on a couple of episodes of “The Drew Carey Show” as well.

Me, I always remember him for his role as Uncle Croc. “Uncle Croc’s Block” was a very, very short-lived Saturday morning series where Reilly played a crotchety kids show host, and although I have no idea how it would play for me today, at the time, I thought it was hilarious because it was so different from anything else on Saturday mornings as the time.

Sorry to see you go, Charles. Hopefully, one of these days, the film of your one-man show, “The Life of Reilly,” will make it to DVD…although there’s a line in this trailer for the film that isn’t nearly as funny any longer.

In the meantime, we’ll leave you with the final word on one thing you absolutely weren’t:

Award show may be Hilton’s last hurrah

“Like, what’s a license?”

Although Paris Hilton will be heading to the pokey soon, she’ll at least get to make one last big splash at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards. It’s rumored that the actress garbage disposal heiress will be attending the event before everyone forgets about her at long last. If only that would actually happen. The forgetting part, that is. I have a feeling we’ll be getting daily updates from “The Insider” and other media outlets. Of course, Hilton’s already had her sentence shortened for “good behavior,” proving once again that oft times there is no justice. Ah well, perhaps she’ll come out of it having created some designer prison garb. Then again, someone may have already designed a shank with her name on it. Ouch.

Judge throws out Burnett’s “Family Guy”

Hey, remember when Carol Burnett used to be funny? Well, apparently she couldn’t take it when “Family Guy” parodied her cleaning woman character that was always seen at the end of Burnett’s TV show and placed her in a sex shop in a 2006 episode. She sued. However, a judge just dismissed the case, and Peter Griffin is once again a guilty free man. Not guilt-free, mind you. So all is right in the world once again and Carol can try to scrape up a couple mil somewhere else for another face lift.

MTV Movie Awards not so rewarding for Beyonce

Bring it on.

Seems like everything is not all wine and roses for miss Beyonce. You see, Rhianna is slated to perform at this year’s MTV Movie Awards and Miz Knowles is threatening to not show up, even though she is a nominee. This is all due to a man, natch. And of course that man is none other than Jay-Z. Looks like Beyonce has officially landed in Divaland. Unfortunately for both her and Rhianna, Jay-Z’s got 99 problems and a bitch ain’t one. For some reason these two didn’t get the message as I assume they were both too busy trying to use the rapper in hopes of adding a little toughness to their images. Girls, you’re fine to look at, but I wouldn’t wanna live there.
