Look what they are smoking

It has been more than a decade that electronic cigarettes, better known as the e-cigarette or simply e-cigs, are warming the shelves in the market, but it lacked presence in Hollywooduntil pretty recently. The portrayal of E-Cigarette on the big screen has triggered fresh ripples across the Hollywood celebrity community and since then it is gaining rapid popularity. Being one of the first realistic substitutes of traditional cigarettes, some Hollywood celebrities have accepted this new assortment and have also stepped forward in accepting endorsements.
“The Tourist,” was one of the prime breakthroughs, where leading actor Johnny Depp was spotted e-smoking in the film. Depp was using his e-cigarette on a train, and on being asked about his smoking in a “no smoking” area, his simple reply was that he was not smoking at all and that e-cigarettes are free from the public smoking ban.

Our other star who has taken the e-cigarette habit and has been spotted numerous times smoking these products on the regular is Model Kate Moss. Lately we have even seen Charlie Sheen, our favourite “Two and a half men” star, working on an endorsing of an E-Cig company advertised as the ‘The Winning E-Cigarette Sheen Safe Smoke.’ From its portrayal it is understood that Sheen has also become one of several partners in the E-Cigarette company.

Amongst other the well-known Hollywood star, Jenny McCarthy, “The View” co-host, have been encouraging the use of Electronic cigarettes against traditional cigarettes. She has also endorsed the e-cigarette brand Blu and can be seen in its commercials. She explains that, now her mouth doesn’t taste like an ashtray, her love life has improved and she feels better about herself. The e-cigs have provided her with a way to smoke without making her feel like a social outcast. This year we even saw Leonardo DiCaprio and Julia Louis-Dreyfus smoking e-cigarettes at the honourable Golden Globe Award ceremony.

E-cigarette is one of the best nicotine replacement products as it has lesser toxic effects than traditional cigarettes. Studies reveal that e-cigarettes are one of the best aid for smoking cessation. It is more effective than traditional pharmacotherapy, mostly because puffing on the e-cigarette gives a more traditional feel and is more effective in dealing with as well as improving short term cravings. Read here for more on Ecigarette review.

2.7% of U.S adults have tried electronic cigarettes and a staggering 31% of those who have tried e-cigs ended up quitting tobacco based cigarettes within a 3 month period. Estimates are that 45 million people smoke traditional tobacco cigarettes and today the number of electronic cigarette smokers are well above 2.5 and rising.Recently we have also seen, Lindsay Lohan, using the electronic replacement for cigarettes, which we presume is aimed at her smoking cessation.

Other prominent Hollywood celebrities like Simon Cowell, Katherine Heigl, Courtney Love, Bradley Cooper, Robert Pattison, have also been spotted using e-cigs. Read more about Ecigarette here.

Lindsay Lohan

Bruno Mars

Millions of fans have fallen in love with his music and his charming personality, but Bruno Mars is much more than just a vaper, recently stating that he has intentions to invest in one of the prestigious electronic cigarette brands in the US.

The Biggest Gamblers in Hollywood

Hollywood casino

Money breeds money or so they say. Therefore it is no surprise that gambling, placing a bet, having a flutter is a popular pastime for Hollywood celebrities. However, many are not content with a playing small bets online. Here is a look at some of Hollywood’s most infamous gambling cases:

Ashton Kutcher

The 35-year-old is one of Hollywood’s A-list stars, with a string of big roles to his name on both the small and big screens. He has made some pretty smart investments over time too, purchasing a stake in Skype for example. However, he revealed in an interview that he was also operating a sophisticated betting network which cleared hundreds of thousands of dollars each week during the college football season.

Tiger Woods

Regularly ranked as one of if not the top-earning sportsperson over recent years, Tiger Woods is not short of cash. He is apparently a well-known figure around the Las Vegas casino scene, not surprising given his well-publicised party lifestyle. Apparently, the golf star enjoyed a one million dollar betting limit at MGM Grand Casino and often played Blackjack at $25,000 per hand.

Charlie Sheen

The “Two and a Half Men” star has had his very public problems and meltdowns and so perhaps his penchant for excessive gambling is no great surprise. His second wife Denise Richards specified in the divorce papers which she filed that Sheen regularly gambled $20,000 each week, mainly on sports betting. He apparently even set up his own gambling website, presumably making it just that bit easier to place a wager on the big match.

50 Cent

The rapper certainly seems to enjoy having a bet, particularly when it comes to sport. In 2012, he is thought to have pocketed a cool $500,000 on a championship game between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. He tweeted that he placed the bet having listened to “the voices in my head.” 50 Cent was also spotted in late 2012 on a high-stakes night of gambling with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. A YouTube clip showed 50 Cent at the end of the evening packing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cash into a snazzy car.

Ben Affleck

The Hollywood actor and director’s gambling issues are no big secret. He has previously received treatment for a gambling addiction and a couple of years ago he was said to owe movie-mogul Ron Meyer $400,000 in gambling debts. The same rumours said that Affleck used to host his own high-stakes poker game at a high-end Beverly Hills cigar club. However, there is no doubting that Affleck is a talented poker player, having won $356,000 at the California State Poker Championship in 2004, which qualified him for World Poker Tour final tournament that same year.

Frank Sinatra

‘Ol Blue Eyes certainly spent plenty of time in Las Vegas and having starred in the original Ocean’s Eleven movie, he was certainly more than familiar with the gambling fraternity. However, Sinatra used his fame to positive effect, campaigning successfully for an end to segregation in Las Vegas casinos. This paved the way for him to enjoy nights at the casino with his Rat Pack colleague Sammy Davis Jr!

If you’re looking to get a taste of the Hollywood glam life in Vegas, consider first playing Betsson mobile games. Practice in the comfort of your own home or whenever you find yourself in a waiting room and bored. It will give you the confidence and experience you might want before taking the plunge at a poker table.

Inspiration from celebrity engagements

There are so may areas where celebrities and pop culture influence our lives, with style being one of the areas where we see the most impact. There’s nothing like a red carpet event to drive talk and trends around dresses and accessories. The Oscars in particular generate so much buzz, and one dress can have a major impact on style trends.

Of course that applies to things like jewelry and engagement rings as well. Quite a bit of ink (and virtual ink) is spilled on the love lives of stars like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie. You have photographers zeroing in on Jennifer’s giant rose-cut diamond given to her by Justin Theroux, and then naturally comparing this to what she got from Brad Pitt. You can just imagine the countless woman who searched on diamond and jewelry sites looking for a similar ring and dreaming about getting their own proposal. Just click here and you can search for yourself. Guys usually ignore all this stuff, but it’s wise to pay at least a little bit of attention if you ever plan on doing your own ring shopping. Frankly, these celebrity stories of engagement rings give guys an opportunity to gauge the reaction of their girlfriends, and the smart ones use that info so that they get the right reaction when and if they decide to buy a ring.

Of course, you also have the celebrity trainwrecks like Kim Kardashian, though in some ways we should all thank her. By going so over-the-top with her own wedding plans, and then following that up with a marriage that lasted shorter than some one-night stands, Kim showed the world how absurd some of this stuff can be. Ring trends and fashion are nice things, but people shouldn’t lose focus on the bigger picture. Girls love the weeding fantasy, but the life that comes later is so much more important.

Golden Globes, Taylor-Tina Face Off

Young celebrity relationships are, for the most part, entirely futile. I learned this after Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears called it quits due to a mysterious misdemeanor on her part. The two then carried out a prolonged, dramatic breakup that only proved how perfect they were for each other.

Or take any relationship that Taylor Swift has entered, ever, for instance.

Like children away at sleep away camp, it seems real time plays no relative matter as the two relatively awestruck and dough eyed mini moguls careen into a whirlwind of super love that lands them straight into the arms of the press, and connectedly, the dining room tables of their beloved fans.  What then follows is a few weeks, months, or maybe even years of a picture perfect seeming love affair, time tabled by tabloids, speculated on by the spectators, and consumed by the masses.

Some of them extend no further than dating, some of them manage, at least, an ill fated engagement, and others even make it to the isle. Very few, however, actually stand the test of time.

But let’s face it, most of these romances, much like Swift’s,  end abruptly after a brief courtship due to a minor hiccup of disagreement or miscommunication. We know there are many fish in the sea, and in Hollywood the fish are much prettier, but aren’t relationships supposed to be built on trust, strengthened though tryst, and tested with time?

Of course, arguments can be made that all of society falls into this category; all with the divorce rate soaring at a skyrocketing rate of dismal and depressing. But, in real life, nobody is praised or applauded for holding hands one day, and announcing engagements the next.

More so, reactions would generally be, “Are you crazy? Do you even know what they do for a living?”

This, of course, is not all celebrities, as some relationships have taken on the world and proved love can even be realized by even the most dense of people. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, for example.

However, it seems that most of these youngsters hop around just way too fast testing out these shiny new toys without actually realizing the heftiness they are holding in regard to their public image, or the message they are sending to their tiny fans. In so much, people will think things, tabloids will say things, and comedians will joke on things.

And if you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. Or, at least try wearing an oven mitt.

Look Swift,  God knows I’m your biggest fan, and I am only jealous of your optimistic ability to jump head first into each romance, but if your’re going to do it, you have to take the jokes that are coming your way in stride. The world is going to laugh at you, and you must laugh at yourself.

Also, you must never insinuate anything negative about Tina Fey and/or Amy Poehler because they are, quite simply, Gods.

Maybe you’ll think I’m going to Hell too for writing this, but hopefully you can see I am just offering advice as a fan.

I own all you albums, having legally paid for them, and sing your songs off of balconies on cruise ships with my little sister. Who, need I mention, also attended a concert on your last tour as a birthday gift from me. So you see, I am rooting for you.

You’re welcome.

The Legality Behind Paparazzi Pics

TMZ’s a guilty pleasure for many American’s wanting to know what’s going on in the world of celebrities. But for others it wasn’t that long ago that they would remember news reports from the UK about Princess Diana’s death, and how her life was tragically cut short because of the paparazzi’s need for a picture. Therein lies the tension between photog’s clamoring for the juicy picture they know the world will want to see, and the famous people who have their privacy invaded, and lives severely disrupted.

Who’s the Victim?

Over the last few years there has been buzz about celebrity’s that have sued magazines, and paparazzi who in turn sued celebrities. A recent New York Times article is a reminder of one of the world’s largest multimedia conglomerates, News of the World, and their phone hacking scandal that reached both sides of the pond, affecting celebrities in Britain as well as the US. But the paparazzi have had their share of unfair treatment as well. So who is really the victim here?

Mike Tyson TKO’ed

A 2010 PopEater article talks about Mike Tyson getting sued by a paparazzi photographer for $25 million. According to the report, an altercation at LAX resulted in the photographer receiving injuries to:

• His face.
• Spine.
• Neck.
• Brain.

The Huffington post points out that Tyson alleged the paparazzi photographer, Antonio Echevarria, “aggressively pursed” him and his family through the airport. However, there were no physical injuries or marks on Tyson, and Tyson had been quoted as threatening to kill Echevarria.

Sean Penn’s Paparazzi Vandalism

TMZ reported about Sean Penn’s “no contest plea” to a 2010 incident in which Penn kicked a photographer, who filed a civil lawsuit alleging a knee injury. It settled a little over a year later with an undisclosed monetary amount and Penn facing:

• 36 Months of probation.
• 300 Hours of mandatory community service.

Celebrities Who Have Been Injured

Part of the reason celebrities fight back isn’t just because their privacy is being assaulted, but often so isn’t their safety. Nicole Richie had to be taken to a hospital after a 2009 car accident that was caused when paparazzi following her rear-ended the car she was in. Brad Pitt was rear-ended by a photographer trying to snap his picture while he was riding a motorcycle. Other celebrities that have runs in with the paparazzi include:

• Madonna getting knocked in the face while carrying her baby.
• Jessica Simpson and her friend got smacked in the face.
• Rihanna knocked by a London photog.

What’s the Law?

Although celebrities are affected wherever they go, California is a definite hot spot for celeb-paparazzi battles. In 2009, celebrity, Governor Schwarzenegger offered legal help to his Hollywood pals by passing an anti-paparazzi law. What does this mean?

• Photos and their earnings may have to be forfeited.
• Fines for cameramen.
• Lawsuits for media outlets that publish illegal photos.

The battle between the famous and those who take their picture will not be going away anytime soon. And with increased injuries, and even deaths the likelihood is that there will be an increase in legislation as well.

Celebrities to Keep an Eye on

Every year is an exciting one within the Entertainment world. Figuring out who you should be watching and keeping track of can be difficult. Here are some of the most exciting celebrities to keep your eye on in 2013.

Jennifer Aniston

Even if you’re “Team Jolie” Anniston is someone to keep an eye on. There are few actresses who can pull of smart, edgy and be the charming girl next door type all at the same time. Anniston is one of them. Over the last few years she’s gone from supporting actress to lead actress and has since added the titles of Director and Producer to her resume. She was given a star on the Walk of Fame in 2012 and has a number of projects in the queue for 2013. Maybe this year she’ll find her “Blind Side.”

Ed Sheeran

He may only be 22, but Ed Sheeran is definitely making a name for himself in the music scene. He started out as an independent musician playing gigs almost every day until his indie album caught the attention Asylum/Atlantic Records. Now he’s signed with the label and was named The British Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2012. He’s a great inspiration for people in the indie scene who have dreams of going mainstream.

Kim Kardashian

Yes, we know that she’s Kanye’s Baby Mama but we’re hoping that beyond watching her adjust to new motherhood 2013 will be the year we finally figure out why, exactly, she’s famous.

Louis CK

His sitcom has been wildly successful for several seasons; he’s won Emmys and has one of the most successful comedy specials of all time (thanks to his selling it independently). With his sitcom, Louie, on hiatus this season nobody is quite sure what he has up his sleeve for 2013 but we’re willing to bet that it is going to be phenomenal.

Katie Holmes

She’s finally free of Tom Cruise and hopefully that means she can start taking on film and television projects again. We’re hoping that her career really takes off now that the two have split. It happened for Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Mimi Rogers (all former or near-former Mrs. Cruises), there’s no reason to believe it won’t happen for the most memorable cast member of Dawson’s Creek. We can’t wait to see what projects she takes on this year!

Justin Timberlake

The mega pop-star took his turn in a Clint Eastwood vehicle in 2012 and has more in store for 2013. In addition to the traditional entertainment projects, Timberlake is also spearheading the MySpace revival effort. The site is due to reopen hopefully soon and if Timberlake can bring it back to life he’ll be able to add “Internet Mogul” to his resume which will make him a…quadruple threat? We’ve lost track of how many threats he is.

Justin Bieber

Isn’t every year a year to keep an eye on Justin Bieber?

2013 is certainly going to be an interesting year—not just for these celebrities but for those of us who are keeping track of them!

The Influence Celebrity Endorsements Have on Teenagers

If your teen spends a lot of time on the Internet or watching TV, he may be more susceptible to celebrity endorsements than others. While that hasn’t always been a good thing (remember all the celebrity smoking endorsements in the 70s?), there are a lot more celebs today who are promoting positive habits. It is important to teach your teen how to discern between fact and opinion and celebrity endorsements are a great place to start.

Become Aware of Your Teen’s Famous Role Models

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, teens spend an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes a day using entertainment media (TV, music, social media, etc.) That’s 53 hours per week — much longer than they spend at school. So, it’s not surprising that teens are particularly susceptible to believing in celebrity endorsements.

You should check out who your teen follows on Twitter, watch his favorite TV shows, and listen to the music on his top playlist. You’ll start to get a better understanding of who your teen considers to be his role models and the influence they have on his life. After that, it won’t be hard to find out the products those celebrities endorse. Just run a quick Internet search.

Talk with Your Teen about the Influence of Celebrity Endorsements

After you’ve researched your teen’s favorite celebs, sit down with him and discuss what those celebs are promoting. Depending on the teen, the involvement that starting this dialogue requires can sometimes breed rebellion, so tread lightly; however, it shows you’re interested his life and want him to make the best decisions for himself. For instance, if your teen is in need of face wash and one of his favorite celebs endorses a particular acne treatment, you should lay out the options and help him look at the ingredients.

Having good and bad examples of celebrity endorsements is important. If a celeb your teen loves is promoting something you think is inappropriate, consider it a way to continue the conversation. Explain how your teen needs to look past the celebrity persona and decipher the facts. It shows your teen that these celebrities can either show him the way to something that will better himself or lead him down the wrong path. It is up to him to make an informed decision.

Positive Celebrity Endorsements to Share with Your Teen

Internet and TV are so teeming with positive celebrity endorsements that you probably see them every day and might not even realize it. Surprising positive role models Cheech and Chong endorse Fiber One, touting the importance of fiber in a healthy diet. Another healthful food endorser is recent Olympics champ Gabby Douglas, who promotes Corn Flakes. Ellen DeGeneres endorses the popular health drink Vitamin Water and important causes such as women’s rights. These popular celebrities are great examples to show your teen of how celebrity endorsement is used for the better.

The use of popular celebrities to promote products has been around for decades. These endorsements are readily available tools to teach your teen to look deeper into a product adorned with a picture of his favorite celebrity and decide if it is going to beneficial for him. He will learn to make his own informed decisions, a skill that will help him succeed in the future.

Celebrities in Rehab

It is easy to get swept up in the trappings of Hollywood glamour. We see celebrities and think, ‘if only I could be them.’ The reality is that being famous isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and the Hollywood life can be much harder to navigate then people think. As far back as Hollywood has been around so hasn’t celebrities who have addiction problems. Often these addictions are attempts to self-medicate and escape from a complex world mixed with excess and privilege, along with isolation and extreme pressures.

Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry recently went to rehab in an attempt to be proactive in his struggle with addiction to alcohol and prescription medication. It was noted that Perry relapsed after having been to rehab twice before. The first time was while he was a regular cast member on the show Friends in 1997.

Gerard Butler

The 300 star, Gerard Butler checked himself in the Betty Ford clinic and told US magazine in an interview that he “has a pretty addictive personality” and was becoming addicted to prescription drugs. He had the medication because of injuries he sustained from 3 of his films. But when he realized it was getting out of control he went to get help and become “a mental warrior”.

Kirsten Dunst

In an interview with British Elle Kirsten Dunst talks about her time in rehab at the Cirque Lodge. She said her time there was to deal with depression issues she had been struggling with. Ironically Dunst was able to use these personal experiences for a role in Melancholia which made her “the center of attention at the Cannes Film Festival”.

How Celebrities Stay Sober

Actor Martin Sheen told AARP Magazine that he works the AA program and credits his faith in Catholicism to staying sober for so many years. At one time Robert Downy Jr. could have been the poster child for celebrity addiction but it seems he has finally kicked the habit and he credits plenty of yoga, Kung Fu, and the support of his wife for keeping him straight. The types of methods that celebrities will encounter in these treatment facilities include the 12 step programs, care from medical professionals, private counseling and behavior modification, and other treatment that targets the brain imbalance of the addict.

Information about Addiction

According to Intercept Interventions although the US is only about 5% of the world’s population, two-thirds of illegal drugs are consumed here. Between 1995-2005 treatment admissions for addictions to pain killers went up more than 300%. Within the US, 1 in 4 children under 18 are exposed addiction in the family. If you or someone you know is struggling at all with addiction, you can go on sites like DrugRehab.org to find the right place to seek treatment.

With the US alone citing more than 100,000 deaths a year due to drug or alcohol dependence, it is clear that addiction is not something to mess with. Fortunately today there isn’t the stigma that used to be associated with rehabilitation. Now you can take the time to get the help you need with more support and understanding.

The Papparazzi: A Day In The Life

There are many kinds of photographers out there: there are nature lovers, wedding photographers, those who work for advertisements; and then there are the paparazzo photographers, the ones who stand out from the crowd. The paparazzi sure have a very interesting life too, just like the people they sprint after all day.

Today, many photographers are choosing the paparazzi over other careers in photography. Formally known as photojournalism, the job of being a paparazzo can have some negative connotations as well.

However, nobody can deny the fact that the world of celebrities is brimming with juice only because the paparazzi exists; how else would anyone manage to get those million-dollar celebrity shots? These people behind the lens surely have an interesting job; they have to chase the rich and famous, and get a shot that will sell.

Good photography colleges churn thousands of potential graduates each year, who venture into various fields of photography based on their interests. Some of these take the challenge of jumping onto the paparazzi bandwagon. The paparazzi hired by a magazine are usually expected to bring in their own equipment; high end cameras, tripods etc. But most expected from a paparazzo are a timely appearance, a perfect angle, and a scandal awaiting to be captured.

So why is it that the paparazzi end up being the media scapegoats? These photographers are despised for barging into private estates, capturing awkward moments, and selling someone’s personal affairs. Ever wondered how much of these allegations are true? The paparazzi are also a form of journalists, who head out to earn their bread and butter; and this is something most of us forget.

Photographers of a paparazzi squad are better off with camera equipment that can capture high definition photographs from a great distance. They also have to keep swapping between long range and short range cameras, based on the situation. Precise timing is required by the paparazzi in order to capture the best celebrity shots.

The job nevertheless is absolutely fascinating and out of the ordinary. Whether Lindsay Lohan has earned another DUI arrest, or Britney Spears has another shameful moment; these people have to be there. There are no specific limits for privacy defined for the paparazzi; why should they be answerable when someone else is embarrassing themselves in public?

Having said that, there are some photographers that break the code; the person who captured Kate Middleton sunbathing with her husband did not do a pleasant job. Peeking into private estates is not a great thing to do, especially when you can be sued by the British Royals.

The paparazzi are also harassed by the celebrities on occasions; these brave soldiers head out into the battlefield with their cameras to not only take pictures, but also to occasionally get attacked by a drunken celebrity.

Being paparazzi doesn’t always mean chasing the troubled A-listers; pictures of celebrities shopping and leaving salons sell equally well.

Celebrity photographer Henry Flores, who has also published a book on his profession, says that being a paparazzo is not an easy job. The industry is inundated with inexperienced and under qualified individuals; maybe it is time that more professional and qualified photographers become part of the paparazzi.
