2018 isn’t over yet but that won’t stop us from listing the best movies of the year so far. 2018 has been a good year for the cinema with several movies raking in over $1 billion in sales worldwide. Our list won’t only focus on ticket sales but on the overall effect the movies had on viewers. Writing, directing, cinematography, acting, and video production have all been considered. So without further ado here are the 5 best Hollywood movies of 2018.

1. Blank Panther

Blank Panther has been, without a doubt, the most popular movie of 2018. This pop culture phenomenon did an unbelievable job of bringing comic-book superhero Blank Panther to life. The movie is set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda and follows its king T’challa as he navigates the challenges that come with his new found power. You can tell a lot of work was put into this movie and the cinematography, set designs, and costumes are sure to blow you away.

2. Annihilation

This fascinating sci-fi movie is packed with surreal visual wonders and unsettling suspense at every corner. Based on a best-selling novel trilogy, the film follows a team of women who venture into a mysterious quarantined area in search of answers. What they find there is dreadful and beyond what they could have ever imagined. This psychological thriller is a must-see.

3. Mission: Impossible – Fallout

The sixth installment of this beloved franchise takes viewers on a thrilling and stunning ride with Ethan Hunt on his latest mission. With his team in tow, Hunt’s exploits provide us with an intense and fun experience set in the back-drop of absolutely amazing set-pieces. This action-packed film will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

4. Sorry to Bother You

This critically acclaimed movie addresses racial issues in America in a refreshing and eye-opening way. The film’s protagonist, Cassius Green, works as a telemarketer in Oakland but has trouble making any sales which the film suggests is due to his African-American heritage. A colleague advises him to use his ‘white voice’ and this ridiculous advice brings him great success. The fearlessly honest film then shows Cassius’ unprecedented rise up the corporate ladder and the conflicts it causes in his personal life.

5. BlacKKKlansman

Based on a true story, this Spike Lee movie takes a closer look at the most infamous white-supremacist group. Set in the 1970’s it tells the story of two undercover detectives who infiltrate the KKK. African American detective Ron Stallworth and his Jewish partner Flip Zimmerman pose as a racist white man (Stallworth on the phone and Zimmerman in person) in order to gain information on the group through its leader. The film does an amazing job of highlighting the racial intolerance of the time.

These 5 movies were loved by viewers and critics alike. With captivating storylines, fantastic acting, and beautiful scenes, these films succeeded in taking moviegoers to another world. 2018 has given us amazing movies and we can’t wait to see what else the year has in store.
