George R.R Martin is a world renowned short-story writer and novelist from America. He’s famous for writing horror, fantasy and science fiction and is involved in his screen adaptions by notably working as a producer and screenwriter.

Martin was recently praised in 2016 by on-line and print publication “The Hollywood Reporter’ as being “the fourth most powerful writer in Hollywood”. When Martin heard the news, he proclaimed: “I’m Number Four! I seem to recall dimly that I was number seven a few years ago, so I guess I am getting more powerful by the day. Soon I will rule the world!”

Indeed, Martin may well rule the world of television as his legendary international bestseller series of adapted fantasy novels are some of the most influential stories a writer has accomplished on TV. The extraordinary and powerful series of Game of Thrones on HBO was adapted from his novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. The epic 7-part fantasy saga was initially envisaged as a trilogy, however now 5 out of the 7 have been published, with The Winds of Winter and The Dream of Spring still to be completed. The volumes have taken Martin over 20 years to write, so it has been a life-long commitment to the millions of devoted readers and viewers.

Game of Thrones Awards

Martin has received countless awards and honours for his work. Throughout the Game of Thrones series, the awards and accolades have kept coming, with recognition all over the world. To name just a few; the Primetime Emmy awards, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Director, the Scream Awards, Outstanding Drama Series. The series was also listed seventh on Empire’s “The 50 best TV shows ever” – and many, many other such lists.

Game of Thrones has not only captivated the TV viewers of the world, but has also become a household name in many senses. Hasbro, the creators of the iconic Monopoly board game, have incorporated the concept and created a family board game edition. There are also special collectable playing cards, quiz books and the family board game of Risk has their own Game of Thrones edition too. Fans are not only playing board games, but also on-line games on casino sites like Betway, where they can get lost in a fantasy world with the potential of winning cash. The officially licensed Game of Thrones slot machine at Betway features sounds, graphics and the general feel of the award-winning series and offers gamers a chance to play 15 lines or 243 ways.

Rumours of a Movie?

As Game of Thrones enthusiasts wait excitedly on the edge of their seat for the final series this year, many are wondering what Martin will bring to us next. Could Hollywood present a blockbuster movie of Game of Thrones?

In 2014, Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance revealed in an interview with The Daily Beast that there is a definite possibility that the HBO series could be a movie. He claimed; “There’s talk of eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don’t know which of the storylines. There’s so much to cram into a film”. When Martin was questioned at the New York premiere of the fourth season, he said that there would need to be a big screen budget to do his book series justice.

Will Game of Thrones be the next blockbuster movie series, in the fashion of J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings? Martin divulged in 2015 that the movie is on the way, but he was busy focusing on finishing The Winter Winds. The author told The Daily Star on Sunday that yes, there will be a movie but he will not be involved. He told the reporter, “The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster”.

So, for all the avid fans of Game of Thrones, hold on to your hats, we may well see a movie appear in the near future…
