Based on Sunday’s estimates, courtesy of boxofficemojo.com:
1) Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby: $14.1 million ($114.7 million, third week)
Un, fucking, believable. That’s all we’ve got. How people still went to this movie in its third week when the Greatest Movie Ever Made is two theaters down is beyond us.
2) Snakes on a Plane: $13.9 million ($15.3 million, first week)
Absolutely unacceptable. How does the Greatest Movie Ever Made only make $15 fucking million on opening weekend? Motherfucking snakes on a motherfucking plane, people!
3) World Trade Center: $10.8 million ($45 million, second week)
Still bothered by the “Snakes on a Plane” numbers to bother making a joke about this.
4) Accepted: $10.1 million (first week)
Justin Long, John Cusack. John Cusack, Justin Long. I think you’ll find that you have a lot in common.
5) Step Up: $9.9 million ($39.4 million, second week)
Whither, “The Illusionist”?
Hate to say it, but I dig Will Ferrell flicks and still wanna see Talladega Nights. Yes, even over yer beloved reptile flick. However, I’d say the next movie I will definitely go see is Broken Lizard’s Beerfest. Now there’s a movie made for me!
All I know is, my wife and I did our part for the cause. Snakes on a motherfucking PLANE, baby!
I can’t believe this flick didn’t blow up the box office.
I read a review of the movie by Kurt Loder which sums up how I’ve felt about the thing from the beginning, even though I haven’t seen it. He basically said that like “The Blair Witch Project,” this movie is something you’ll probably want to see once and then be done with it, though he did like the experience of seeing it. And that’s generally what I’ve real all around, that as a movie it’s hardly that, but the audience makes it fun.
I don’t entirely agree with that. I admit, I was all psyched to see it in a huge audience…but as anyone with a kid knows, you go see movies when a babysitter is available, so we ended up catching it Sunday at 1:10 PM, which made for a decidedly empty theater. But it was STILL a fun flick, small crowd or not.
Yeah, I know how that goes. Which is why we generally see movies at the local drive-in, which is fun, and way cheaper than a regular theater (6 bucks a person to get in for two first-run movies, and the concessions are also cheaper by at least 70%). I think this is showing there, but as I said Beerfest is opening this week and will be there as well and that’s taking the top spot for me.
Now this is a great title for a thread.
